Kempston lose ground after Deeping draw

The draw saw Kempston fall two points behind table-topping Leicester Nirvana who ground out a 2-1 win at Harborough Town.

Speaking after his side’s draw at Deeping, Rovers boss Jimmy Stoyles said: “Another draw and two points dropped; the performance levels and energy from the lads is very good but over the last four games we are not taking our chances and killing teams off.”

Both sides started brightly on a bobbly and hard surface, as Deeping played very narrowly while Kempston kept their width and looked to supply quality deliveries into their strikers and the box.

After 20 minutes Kempston got a foothold in the game and built constant pressure, but the Deeping keeper pulled off two fantastic saves from the unfortunate Alex Stoyles.

Another great chance feel to AFC’s Ash Fuller on the edge of the box but dragged it wide, and Rovers were made to pay when Deeping broke the deadlock after a scramble in the box.

Rovers piled on the pressure in the second half but found themselves up against a Deeping keeper in inspired form as he produced save after save.

Rovers also hit the woodword – the seventh time they have done so in their last four games – but the equaliser finally arrived when Josh Crawley came off the bench to level things up after combining well with Harry Winters.

Deeping were still a threat at the other end, but there were no further goals as both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Stoyles added: “With six games remaining Rovers remain in a very strong position to keep their title challenge thriving.”
