Heavy rain leads to fixture distruption

HEAVY and persistent rain throughout the previous week meant the postponement of the Premier Division games between Renhold United and Shefford Town & Campton and Woburn v Caldecote being called off due to waterlogged pitches leaving just one top flight game go ahead.

And in that Sharnbrook ran out 2-1 winners at AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College to ensure they will finish above their hosts in the final standings after Paola Fregapane netted both goals against a Town reply from Keegan Roberts.

Division One

WITH Hillgrounds unplayable, Bedford Sports Athletic agreed to concede home advantage and travel to The Green where they faced Ickwell & Old Warden in a game which would decide Division One title. In the end Ickwell ran out the 3-0 victors and ended their league campaign after winning their last 13 games.

Nick Jones put them ahead in the third minute before Danny Fox added to the scoreline from a free kick 13 minutes from time. And it was Lee Threadgold who grabbed goal number three two minutes from time.

Just down the road at Harvey Close, Lidlington United Sports missed the chance to finish the season in third spot after losing 3-0 to hosts Caldecote Reserves. All the goals came in the second period thanks to Neil Giles (two) and Tom Dupuy.

FC Meppershall made it four wins on the bounce thanks to a 3-0 victory at Kings AFC. It also ensured they would finish the season in fifth spot after James Field (two) and Danny Wing did the damage.

The win for FC Meppershall meant that Sandy, despite winning 7-1 at Meltis Albion, ended the season in sixth spot. Daniel Stafford was on the scoresheet four times, Nathan Morris twice and Mark Jennings once against a home reply from Nick Hardwick.

Division Two

NEWLY-crowned Division Two champions Elstow Abbey were beaten for the first time in the league this season after going down 2-0 at second place AFC Turvey for whom Mike Stephenson netted in the first half and Tim Clarke in the second.

Biggest winners of the day were Sundon Park Rangers who won 7-3 at Marabese Ceramics to end their season in fifth place. Samuel Kehinde netting twice alongside singles for Danny Viola, Luke Evans, Aaron Conway, Chris Hazel and Andrew Fox, the home replies coming from Lewis Littlechild (two) and John Chitondu.

Also enjoying a big win were Shefford Town & Campton Reserves. They were 5-0 home winners against Potton United Reserves as Ryan Dodson bagged a hat-trick while Sam Jones netted a brace giving Town their sixth win on the bounce to claim fourth spot in the final standings.

Enjoying life on the road were Co-op Sports. They were 2-0 winners at Queens Park Crescents thanks to goals from Chris Vardy and Tom McMilan.

Meanwhile Bromham United extended their unbeaten away run to four games by sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Stopsley Park. Craig Pettit and Rob Wilson were on the scoresheet for the hosts against United replies from Shane Conzano and Robin Hewitt.

The game between M & DH Oakley and Great Barford was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Division Three

SUNDON Park Rangers Colts maintained their quest for a top four finish when, despite conceding home advantage due to their own Wrest Park ground being waterlogged, they ran out 7-1 winners at Potton Town.

Ashley Wadhams netted twice alongside an own goal plus strikes from Luke Dolan, Rory McMullan, Colin Moore and Chris Scott, the a lone home reply from Chris Cooper.

For Stevington there was a 5-3 victory at Royal Oak Kempton after Matt Coles netted twice alongside singles for Clinton Tatham, Darren King and Gavin White. The Oak’s threereplies came from Brendan Cunningham, Lorenzo Jordan and Liam Boland.

The game between Cranfield United Reserves and Dunton Reserves was postponed due to a waterlogged Crawley Road pitch.

Division Four

THE outcome of the the Division Four ‘silver medals’ remains undecided after second place Thurleigh had their five game winning run ended in a 6-2 defeat at Wootton Village.

Both Adam Flynn and Lewis Aitken netted twice alongside singles for Tom Beattie and Callum Farmborough which took the Village to their third win on the bounce. The Thurleigh replies came from Josh Pierre St Clair and David Mulvhill.

Rivals for the runner-up spot are Marsh Leys whose home clash with Dinamo Flitwick was waterlogged off. leaving them a point behind in third spot with both clubs having just one game to play.

Also waterlogged were the games between Caldecote ‘A’ and Bedford Park Rangers and Dunton ‘A’ and Clifton Reserves.

At Rectory Road, Shefford Town & Campton A enjoyed a 5-1 home victory over Goldington Hammers with Jason Webster (two), Keiron Best, Dan Fowler and Michael Jones all on the scoresheet.

On The Green, Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw with Bedford Panthers. Matthew Bruney gave them a 2-0 lead at the break with a couple of stunning finishes before strikes in the second period from Rory Cochrane and William Powell squared it before the final whistle.
