Town have suffered of late with cancellations and away losses but put in a four-star display in front of their fans.

They were three-up by half-time, and another goal after the break sealed the welcome points.

The visitors hit the bar with a long range effort in the opening exchanges, but Town soon found their tempo after a two-week break and put Winslow to task.

Frazer Maidment headed home from a Danny Butler centre in the 15th minute, and five minutes later Glenn Cooksley found Butler who drilled home Town’s second.

Dean Dummett had a shot cleared off the line and Danny Butler brought a great save from the keeper, before Conrad Zylko got in on the act and fired home Ampthill’s third from outside the box.

Town consolidated their superiority in the second half and were rewarded with a fourth when Brad Clarke headed home from Mike Draycott’s centre.

Ampthill had played well on their travels over Christmas against the top three sides but this performance will restore their belief and character.

Saturday’s victory moves Town up to eighth place in the SSML Division One table, one point behind seventh placed Harpenden Town and one clear of Woodford Town in ninth.

Ampthill are at home on Saturday against basement side Arlesey Town reserves and will be looking for a win to complete the double over them after overcoming them away in September.

Struggling Arlesey currently only have eight points from their opening 23 league fixtures of the season.

Next week Town are in cup action as they host Kent Athletic in the Beds Senior Trophy semi-final.
