Five-star Town cruise to big Hillingdon win

Hillingdon began confidently and tested Town early on, but Glenn Cooksley joined the Town attack to put them ahead in the 15th minute.

The first half saw chances at both ends, with an away free-kick going close and a header missing the target while Mike Draycott saw a centre go across the goalmouth unfinished.

Ampthill stepped up their efforts in the second half with Louie Dilllon going close and Dean Dummett miscuing after a good run.

Frazer Maidment increased Town’s lead with two goals in a 10-minute spell, first finishing off a good move by Draycott and then beating the offside trap to add the third.

Maidment squandered the chance to complete his hat-trick when he missed a penalty after Lou Dillon was brought down, and Hillingdon reduced arrears with a long range shot.

But two goals from Brad Clarke gave Town their best win of the season with two pieces of opportunism in the last 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, Town travelled to Southall on Saturday but the match had to be abandoned early on.

With Jack Ambler away, Daryll Baker made his debut in goal, but with barely 10 minutes gone he collided with a home forward and suffered a broken knee cap and ligament damage.

Ampthill were due to host Crawley Green tonight but the league have extended the campaign for a week due to a backlog of fixtures, and that game has now been arranged for May 7.

Town host Codicote on Saturday who they also beat earlier in the term, and face a trip to Brimsdown’s Enfield base on Monday evening before a Easter Saturday home game with Chesham Reserves.
