East Beds Charity Cup final kicks off Beds League weekend

Then on Saturday this weekend’s action will see the final full programme of the 2014-15 season taking place as the current campaign draws to a close.

With all the issues now settled at the head of the Premier Division supported by Sportsform for the leading clubs just pride will be at stake. Whilst second place Flitwick Town play hosts at their Football Centre base to sixth place Wootton Blue Cross.

Over at Marston Playing Fields seventh place hosts Marston Shelton Rovers will be anxious to end their run of six home encounters without a victory when called upon by fifth place AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College who will be hitting the road now unbeaten in their last five away starts. For one of the clubs it will also be revenge time as the two clubs would have met 72 hours earlier in a Britannia Cup Semi-final encounter.

However down at the other end of the table the wooden spoon is still up for grabs as bottom of the table Ickwell & Old Warden wll kick off at 10.45am - to allow for a cricket match to take place in the afternoon - and be wanting to end their current six game losing home run on The Green when called upon by third place AFC Oakley M&DH.

They hope to keep the battle alive with Caldecote who go into local derby action at Bedford Road Recreation Ground at 1.45pm against the hosting ninth place Sandy. The hosts are looking for just their third home win of the season and the visitors just their third away win.

Other action comes at Wixams, the venue at which eleventh place hosts Eastcotts AFC look to end a run of four consecutive home defeats against the visiting twelfth place Sharnbrook and at Jubilee Playing Fields, tenth place Wilstead play hosts to eighth place Pavenham who have won three of their last five trips on the road.

In Division One supported by Wests Citroen Bedford action the league title is still in abeyance, however it does appear to be going the way of current league leaders Cranfield United who journey to Miller Road to be hosted by sixth place Meltis Albion who are currently on a run of four home games without a win and will almost certainly be United’s if second place Elstow Abbey fail to collect all three points from their own away encounter at Church Lane against the hosting twelfth place AFC Oakley M&DH Reserves.

Down at the other end of the table basement club Marabese Ceramics will still feel they have a chance of avoiding the drop, but due to cricket commitments they are being forced to play their home encounter with seventh place Riseley Sports at the Sportsmen’s Gold Street base.

Whilst for one of the clubs they are looking to climb above Bedford SA go into home 3.15pm action at their temporary Miller Road base looking to repair the damage of eight home games without a win against the visiting eleventh place Potton Town who will arrive looking to end a run of four consecutive away defeats.

Other action comes at Stockwood Park Athletic Track, the venue at which fourth place Sundon Park Rangers look for win number six on the bounce when called upon by eighth place Queens Park Crescents.

In Division Two the battle for the title, should despite the midweek action, still be a three way fight. Of the trio on paper third place Westoning look to have the toughest fixture this weekend when they hit the road to King George VI Playing Fields to face fourth place Clapham Sports who have lost just the twice on home soil all season. As both the other contenders will be expected to collect all three points from their home encounters. Current league leaders Stevington at their Playing Field base playing hosts to fifth place Elstow Abbey Reserves losers of four of their last five away outings and at Moore Crescent, second place FC Houghton look to maintain their seasons unbeaten home ways when called upon by twelfth place Kempston Athletic.

Down at the other end of the table basement side Wilstead Reserves are now in the last chance saloon and perhaps only a victory at Renhold Playing Fields against the hosting eleventh place Renhold United Reserves will give them any chance of a possible safe exit and even that might not be enough if third from bottom of the table Meltis Albion Reserves were to collect anything from their visit to Horseshoes Close where they venture forth to be hosted by tenth place Moggerhanger United.

In Division Three its just a programme of three games and for league champions Cranfield United Resrves that means home action at Crawley Road looking to defend their seasons unbeaten home ways against the visiting fourth place Atletico Europa who have lost just the twice on the road all season. Whilst at Greenfield Road, bottom of the table Westoning U20 search out just their third home win of the season against the visiting second from bottom of the table Caldecote U20 who won just their first away game of the season last weekend.

The final action coming at Bedford Road Recreation Ground when in a 4.15pm kick off tenth place Sandy Reserves play hosts to the visiting eighth place Clifton who are currently on a nine game losing away run.
