Dunton succumb to penalty shoot-out

United had to thank goalkeeper Adam Fitzjohn for keeping out James Cooper’s 83rd minute penalty kick to take the game into extra time and while Paul Mercer gave the hosts the lead in the final action of the opening spell, Adam Barker replied early in the final period to earn a shoot-out.

Leighton’s spot kick scorers were Rory Mullen, Sean Moore, Kevin Hilton and Alex Bradley while there were successful kicks from Barry Emery, Paul Mercer and James Cooper which left United 4-3 winners.

In the other half of the draw, goals from Aran Hazelwood, Tommy Foyle and Sheldon Washington took Renhold United to a 3-0 victory at AFC Kempston Town to set up a last four meeting with Shefford Town & Campton. They won 3-1 at Oakley Sports with Andrew Hayday, Adam Larsen and Ryan Welton on the scoresheet against a home reply from Gary Chance.

Centenary Cup

IT was plain sailing into the last four of the Centenary Cup for Potton Wanderers after a 7-1 win over Caldcote Reserves. Sam Worthington bagged a brace while there were single strikes from Craig Schurek, Danny Fox, Conor Green, Chris Baines and Jesse Moyo, the reply from Matt Basta.

Wanderers now face Bedford Sports Athletic who were 4-1 winners at home to Blunham Reserves after Asa Mead (two), Ashley Mead and Gary Canzano were on target, Chris Dunne being the Blunham scorer.

It was much tougher for Bedford Hatters but they came through their quarter-final with a 4-3 win at home to FC Meppershall. Darek Jozwiak bagged a hat-trick together with a single from Colin Reid, the Meppershall scorers being Danny Wing (two) and Craig Damon.

Next up for the Hatters are Marston Shelton Rovers. They won 2-1 in extra time at Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves. Lee Threadgold and Aaron Franks both scored in opening 90 minutes while Rovers; Charlie Standish grabbed the extra time winner.

Jubilee Cup

HEAVIEST Jubilee Cup scorers were Lea Sports PSG. They enjoyed a 5-2 home win over Clifton after both Paul Collins and Eion Brown netted twice with another from Andre Juraszek, the Clifton replies being a Tony Norman penalty and another from Will Pitts.

Lea Sports will face Westoning Recreation Club in the last four after the Rec Boys enjoyed a 4-3 home win over Stopsley Park. Tom Smith (two), Jack Barnwell and Ian Buckingham were on target to outscore James Smart (two) and Lee Russell.

In the other half of the draw, Elstow Abbey’s Jason Harrison, Jeramine Mills, Martise Clarke and Rob Mirto ensured a 4-0 home win over Marabese Ceramics which sets up a last four meeting with Kings AFC. Kings came through 2-0 with goals from Rowan Hazelwood and Danny Cain against Kempston Hammers Sports.

Watson Shield

FOR runaway Division Four leaders AFC Turvey there was a 4-1 second round Watson Shield win at home to Sharnbrook Reserves. Mike Stephenson netted a hat-trick and Saimir Guri score the other, the reply from Martyn Caine.

Turvey now face Goldington in the last eight after they won 4-0 at Clifton Reserves with goals from Karl Andreson (two), Damion Quigley and Chris Huckle.

A lone goal from Lloyd Turner was enough to give Royal Oak Kempston a 1-0 home win over Sandy Reserves and a home tie against Dinamo Flitwick.

Runaway Division Three leaders Pavenham found it tougher than expected and only emerged after penalty shoot-out win at Eastcotts.

It was deadlocked at 2-2 after 120 minutes after goals from Michael Sexton (two) for the hosts and Tom Rodger and James Owen for the visitors. But there was shoot-out success as Stuart Beazley, Tom Rodger, James Stiles, Nick Adkins and Tom Ellis won the day for Pavenham and a last eight home tie with Stewartby Village.

Stewartby were penalty shoot-out winners against Shefford Town & Campton ‘A’ after the Village’s Kyle Smith and Shefford’s Chris Fry were on target for 1-1 after extra time.

Then in the in the shoot-out, Micheal Cook, Ben Sparks, Gareth O’Brien and John Steele all netted for Stewartby against three replies from Craig Palmer, Sean Francis and Ryan Moore while Ollie Morgan and Chris Fry missed the target.

Another tie to go the distance was Co-op Sports shoot-out win at Renhold Village. It was 5-5 after 90 minutes and 6-6 after 120 minutes but Co-op won the day 4-1 in the shoot-out thanks to Andrew Ayres, Paul Power, Thomas Miller and Ashley Jordan all netting from the spot.

Earlier, Village goals from John Searle (hat-trick), Matthew Bailey, Dan Luke and Marko Tobdzic were cancelled out by Ashley Jordan (four), Chris Vardy and Thomas Miller. The Co-op’s reward is a home tie with either Lea Sports Reserves or Thurleigh at the last eight stage.

Premier Division

BLUNHAM climbed to third and are just four points shy of leaders Shefford Town & Campton with two games in hand after winning 5-1 at Woburn. Steve Thomas bagged a hat-trick and Andy Smith a brace with Matt Busby replying for the Safari Boys.

Following three straight defeats, it was a welcome return to winning ways for Caldecote who ended Flitwick Town’s unbeaten three game run.

They won 4-1 thanks to an own goal and one from Paul Lawrence for 2-0 at half time while Jim Lewis pulled one back before home player Jim Lewis saw his goal replied to by a Russell Kemp penalty and a strike from Barry Dellar in the second period.

At Lodge Road, Sharnbrook achieved their first win in five outings to stay clear of the drop zone at the expense of bottom of the table Arlesey Town Reserves. The Blues have yet to win away from home this season. Dan Billington and Dan Kelly were on the Sharnbrook scoresheet, the reply from Charlie Marshall.

Division Onee

THE only game in Division One saw second from bottom Luton Old Boys end a run of four consecutive away defeats with a 2-1 victory at Henlow. Ross Given and Alvin Rajaram were their goal heroes, the reply coming from a Steve Bennett penalty.

Division Two

WITH Queens Park Crescents giving notice to the league during Saturday morning that they were withdrawing their membership with immediate effect, the only Division Two game saw Bromham United go top of the table following a 6-0 win at Great Barford.

Sherlan Lindsey bagged a hat-trick, Sam Jones, Paul Hubbard and Phil Kempsell getting the others.

The surprise came 12 hours later when Queens Park Crescent called to say that they had changed their minds! They are now confident of fulfilling their remaining fixtures but alas it was too late to for them tto entertain Lidlington United Sports who will be duly awarded the three points from the scheduled game.

Division Three

CALDECOTE ‘A’ suffered their ninth consecutive league defeat when Westoning Recreation Club Reserves romped to their first win in 12 outings with a 9-0 win at Harvey Close. Joe Rogers bagged four, Andrew Morris two along with strikes from Antony Dean, Ryan Cull and Simon Carlin.

And it was a good day for Sundon Park Rangers who climbed to third and took their unbeaten ways to seven games with a 1-0 win at Cranfield United Reserves, Nick Buttigieg’s goal doing the damage.

Enjoying life on home soil were Riseley Sports. They won 5-0 win against Dunton Reserves with two goal apiece from Paul Brown and Jimmy Grandidge (who later missed a penalty for his hat-trick!) and Kevin Thompson.

Wilshamstead Reserves netted their fourth home win on the bounce, 3-1 against Flitwick Town Reserves. Liam Philip (two) and Neil Greig were the home marksmen against a Town reply from Harry Rowland.

Division Four

HAVING lost their last five games, Bedford Park Rangers returned to form with a bang and a 4-3 home win over promotion hopefuls Dinamo Flitwick who lost for the first time in six. Robbie Harris grabbed a hat-trick and Roger Goff the other with the replies from Alex Sommers, Jason Del-Boyer and Dale Goldie.

Thurleigh’s promotion chances also took a knock when they were beaten at home 3-1 by Potton Town who themselves creep even closer into the promotion mix. Dan King, Chris Cooper and James Pyman were all on target for Town against a lone home reply from Ben Stock

Kempston Athletic moved out of the bottom two at the expense of Sandy Reserves after they won for the first time on the road this season, 5-2 at Goldington Hammers. A Gary Whitbread hat-trick plus goals from Rob Booth and Jason Beddall did the job, the Hammers replies from Jimmy Jacob and Adam Forni.

Also enjoying life on the road were Lea Sports PSG Reserves. They won 4-1 at bottom of the table Wootton Village with goals from Mick Chesney, Stuart Garrett, Dave Harding plus an own goal, the Village replying through Kyron Layne.
