Jon Taylor’s first two games in charge of Bedford produced some scintillating football, but the third game fell short of what the fans saw against Northwood and Leighton.
All in all, this was a game that needed to be forgotten, as the Eagles lost 1-0 at the Eyrie to Uxbridge; a side previously without an away win in the league.
With Tyler Reading unavailable, the boss put new signing Zaki Oualah in goal.
At times in the first half, there were pockets of excitement; in the 27th minute, Dave Thomas sent Bedford hearts fluttering when his cross from the right deflected off Kyle Lincoln, rebounded off the knee of James Peters, and was finally headed to safety by Tommy Hull.
A couple of minutes later, Javia Roberts set up Bilal Yafai, and the midfielder went on a run that ended with a shot from just outside the area that just cleared the bar.
Roberts forced Paul McCarthy into a save on 38 minutes, but the shot lacked any power and the Uxbridge keeper was able to easily save.
The winning goal for the visitors came just four minutes into the second half, as Kevin Warner easily found a gap in the Bedford defence, and after taking a pass, fired an unstoppable shot past Oualah.
Just before the hour, Oualah had to palm an effort from Lewis Cole round the post to deny Uxbridge a second goal.
Roberts and Yafai then played a one-two with the former releasing a shot that flew across goal and off.
Late in the game, Dan Crowie’s shot, following a corner, cannoned off an Uxbridge player before it had a chance to reach the line.
Two minutes into stoppage time, Roberts’ vicious cross from the left byline was intercepted by McCarthy, and that was it for Bedford.
The defeat sends Bedford down to 13th.
