Ampthill Town warmed up for Wednesday night’s County Cup final when they scored their first away win since October to complete the double over Winslow with a 2-1 win.
Town put four past the Winslow boys in January and they collected a vital three points in Bucks on Saturday.
Town began brightly and forced several early corners which saw them dictate the opening stages.
Fraser Maidment went close with a header and Danny Butler was unlucky with an effort from Louie Dillon’s cross.
But Town broke the deadlock before half-time when Danny Butler received a long range pass from Ross Airson to put Town ahead.
Ampthill were rocked early in the second half when Winslow levelled when Joey Acheampong drove home an 18 yard volley which gave Ambler no chance.
But Town rallied and sub Brad Clarke went on a surging run into the box which saw his shot only parried by the keeper for Maidment to follow for the winner.
It was a valuable and welcome win before their clash against Kempston Town on Wednesday. Town continue a busy schedule with a home game against Harpenden on Saturday before a trip to Broadfields on Monday.
