County Cup date for Ickwell

Saturday was county cup day for several of the Bedfordshire County League sides and the best performance of the second round ties came from Ickwell & Old Warden who beat Spartan South Midlands League side Caddington 4-2 thanks to goalscorers Lee Threadgold, Matthew McCartney, Zak Rowe and Dean Hamilton.

Joining the men from The Green in round three were AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College who beat Bedford Hatters 2-0 with goals from John Guiney and Martin Ivy. Also though to Monday’s draw were Renhold United who netted a 3-0 home win over Shefford Town & Campton thanks to goals from Sheldon Washington, Alex Woolston and Jason Allison.

However it was the end of road for Premier Division leaders Arlesey Town Reserves who suffered a 5-1 defeat at United Counties League side Potton United for whom Joe Aris netted a brace together with single strikes from Gary Ansell-Carter, Sam Worthington and Chris Reeves, Dale Chester having opened the scoring for The Hollow visitors after 11 minutes.

Also falling through the exit door were Marston Shelton Rovers. They were beaten 3-0 at home by SSML Division Langford while at The Carlsberg Stadium, the ‘game off’ sign was showing after landlords Biggleswade Town ruled the pitch unplayable for the scheduled tie between AFC Biggleswade and Caldecote.

Beds FA Junior Cun

The final second round tie in the County Junior Cup saw Luton District & South Beds League Jedenastka run out 9-2 home winners over Kempston Athletic. Gary Whitbread and Nicholas Emene were on Ath’s scoresheet while a visit from Wilshamstead Reserves awaits Jedenastka in round three.

Premier Division

Flitwick Town took their unbeaten ways on the road up to four games and left bottom of the table Bedford Sports Athletic still looking for their first win by beating them 4-2 at Grange Road. Richie Bevan bagged a hat-trick and Jim Lewis a single for Town against home replies from Daniel Bond and Andrew Latimer.

At Lodge Road, Sharnbrook returned to winning ways with a 4-0 home victory over Lidlington United Sports. Sean Duffy netting twice alongside Tommy Chapman and Chris Prior which inflicted a third successive away defeat United.

Division One

It’s as you were in Division One following victories for the top four. Leaders Leighton United stay a point clear at the top after they returned to winning ways on home soil with a 4-2 win over Sandy. Daryl Smith, Robbie Smith, Kevin Hilton and Ashley Wadhams all on the scoresheet against replies via Ian Hammett from the penalty spot and Olly Banfield.

For second place Shillington, it was win number six on the bounce. They won 5-1 at home to local rivals Shefford Town & Campton Reserves. Ahead in the opening minute with a goal from Sam Martin, that soon became 2-0 when Alex Toye struck and it appeared to be game over when Jordan Robbens added a third on the hour mark.

However, Town’s Jordan Ainslie reduced the deficit to 3-1 some 14 minutes from time only then to see Luke Webb net twice in the closing seven minutes to bring up the home sides nap hand.

Elsewhere, third place Pavenham maintained their season’s unbeaten ways and 100 per cent home record with a 4-0 success over bottom of the table AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves. James Owen and James Meehan both netting twice.

Whilst also netting four times were fourth place Caldecote Reserves, they preserved their own 100 per cent season’s home record by beating Brickhill Tigers 4-2. Matthew Sayers with a brace plus goals from Tom Dupey and Michael Robinson doing the damage.

Goals were also in plentiful supply at Chaul End Lane where Luton Boys ran out 5-3 home winners over Elstow Abbey. Naashon Bennett seeing his hat-trick supported by strikes from Ali Mohiyaldeen and Nathan Prime against Abbey replies via Danny Pilgrim twice and Dom Parrella.

Alas life gets no better for second from bottom of the table Kings AFC, they suffered their fourth home defeat on the bounce when beaten 3-2 by Henlow. Charlie Richardson, Keith Milburn and George Zitko on the victors scoresheet against home replies from Ryan Smith and Adam Haywood.

Division Two

Goldington’s Division Two lead is now up to five points after they retained their seasons unbeaten ways and made it five wins on the bounce with a 4-1 home victory over Bromham United. Chris Huckle leading the way with a hat-trick and Damion Quigley netting once against a lone United reply via Alex Farr.

For second place Sundon Park Rangers it was a 2-1 defeat at still unbeaten at home Cranfield United Reserves. David Anderson and James Armstong on the home scoresheet against a Rangers reply from Samuel Kehinde.

Now up into third spot are Marabese Ceramics, they made it three wins on the bounce with a 3-1 victory at Oakley Sports M&DH Reserves. Arun Fehmi striking all three goals against a lone home reply from Alex Liburd.

The Tilermen jumping above Woburn Athletic beaten 2-1 at home by Meltis Albion, they were duly claiming their first win in six outings and their first success on the road this season thanks to goals from Darren Ashpole and Antony Ursell against a lone home reply via Ben Nichols.

Just goal difference now behind The Safari Boys in fifth spot are Eastcotts AFC, for them it was away win number three on the trot with a 3-1 victory at Stopsley Park. Michael Sexton netting twice and Tony Milioto once against a Park reply from Alfred Maci.

Elsewhere, Westoning were losing their seasons 100% home record by being held to a 4-4 draw by Potton United Reserves. Sam Childs with a brace plus Tom Smith and Glen Cooksley on the home scoresheet against a Brad Vought hat-trick and a strike from Lee Adams marking the United sheet.

Division Three

Marsh Leys’ Division Three lead remains at five points despite them losing their seasons 100% away record when held to a 1-1 draw at Kempston Hammers Sports. Slyvester Mulenga netting the vital goal, whilst The Hammers reply came via an own goal.

Failing to close the gap on The Leys were second place Clifton, they were held to a 1-1 home draw by second from bottom of the table Bedford Park Rangers who were duly ending a six game losing run. Nick Thomas on the home scoresheet against a Rangers reply from Kieren Souter.

However, closing in on them both are now third place Riseley Sports who retained their seasons unbeaten home ways with a 4-0 win over bottom of the table Royal Oak Kempston. Nial O’Connor with a hat-trick plus a goal from Jack Henman sending The Oak to their ninth consecutive league defeat.

Now down into fourth spot are Wilshamstead Reserves who were beaten 3-1 at Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves, Adam Drakville twice and Sunil Gharu netting the goals to preserve Ickwell’s 100 per cent seasons home record against a lone reply from a Jay Hall penalty.

Just goal difference behind in fifth and sixth spot are Great Barford and Dunton after they both claimed home wins. Great Barford with goals from Ben Stocks, David Mulvhill and Josh Pierre St Claire winning 3-2 to end Westoning Reserves unbeaten away ways for the season despite replies from Scott Gadsden and Matthew Jefferson. Whilst Dunton claimed a 6-0 win over Stevington, Liam Brophy striking four times alongside goals from Laurence Bosher and Dave Gibbs.

There was a real goal feast at Mill Lane before home side Potton Town were beaten 7-6 by Renhold United Reserves. Jamie Hutchinson and Brad Smith both netting twice alongside Chris Moore and James Pyman for The Town only to be outdone by United replies from Justin Newham twice plus Kane Alexander, Lee Haughton, Reece Bell, Jordan Kumar and Justin Patterson.

Division Four

Elstow Abbey Reserves’s Division Four lead at the head of the league table remains at three points after they retained their seasons 100 per cent record with a 5-0 home win over bottom of the table Shefford Town & Campton ‘A’. Kaylen Wilson netting three times alongside single strikes from Michael Yates and Brandon Stewart.

For second place Bedford Panthers who have played one game less than The Abbey it was also retention of their seasons 100 per cent ways with a 4-2 victory at Caldecote ‘A’. Gary Philipson netting twice alongside Valiant Muddkwani and Tom Wade against home replies via Matthew Ackroyd and Mark Eaton.

However, losing ground on the top two are third place Flitwick Town Reserves after they were beaten 4-0 at home by now fifth place Clifton Reserves.Troy Banks with a brace plus Joe Marshall and Harry Fisher netting the Clifton goals.

Also climbing the standings into sixth place are Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves, all thanks to a 5-0 win at Dinamo Flitwick. Ben Greenwood with a hat-trick plus strikes from Carl Borromeo and Jake Cullum bringing up the Rovers nap hand.

Elsewhere, Sandy Reserves and Wootton Village shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Jonnie Stratford netting both home goals against Village replies via Ivan Anderson and Dwayne Simpson.
