Josh Crawley and Jamaine Ivy netted before the break, and Gary Ridgway was also on target after the interval as Kempston bossed proceedings from start to finish.

Rovers manager Jimmy Stoyles was understandably delighted with the performance, saying: “We have been playing OK of late but not playing to the levels that we expect. So we have focussed over the last two weeks in training on our intensity, playing on the front foot and making better decisions and this was on show today with a very good performance.

“From the start of the game our appetite, energy, decision making and quality was of the highest level; to be honest Desborough looked shocked.

“Our intensity and quality was exceptional, with two good goals from Josh Crawley – his first for the club – and Jamaine Ivy in the first half, plus hitting woodwork; we should have gone in four or five up.

“The half-time chat was simple with only a few dead ball changes. We continued to dominate the game and create chances; our midfield were dictating the game and the front two at times were unplayable.

“Desborough got back into the game in the last 10 to 15 minutes but they never troubled our keeper Martin Conway or our back four.

“They showed they are a decent side, but we killed the game off with a third from the returning Gary Ridgway.

“Every one of our players today produced a very good performance and showed the depth of this squad once again with Shane Bush, Dom Masala, Carl Knox, and Michael Lyon missing through injuries and suspension.

“We now look forward to a good week’s training and on to Northampton Spencer at home on Saturday.

“All the players should all be proud of their achievement and consistency which we create through our togetherness, hard work and belief in each other.”
