Caldecote reach county cup semis

CALDECOTE became the last Bedfordshire County League club standing in this season’s Beds FA Senior Trophy after they emerged 2-1 extra time winners away to league rivals Shefford Town & Campton.

Ahead after a strike from Kai Griffiths-Shilton in the sixth minute, they were pegged back to 1-1 in the second period thanks to a strike from Ryan Welton only for Tom Cookman to bag what turned out to be the winner six minutes into the first period of extra time which earned them a place in the semi-finals.

Making their exit at the last eight stage were both Renhold United and Blunham. United went down 4-0 at Molten South Midlands League side Ampthill Town while Blunham were hammered 11-2 away to The 61FC Luton. The Blunham goals came from Matthew McMahon and a Barry ‘Spanners’ Ulyatt penalty.

Britannia Cup

AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College eased their way into round two of the Britannia Cup with a 4-2 home victory over Dunton. Thomas Behan netted a hat-trick while Roy Murnane was also on the home scoresheet against Dunton replies from James Cooper and Tom Burton.

Premier Division

WITH Shefford Town & Campton away on County Cup duty, Bedford Hatters took full advantage to climb above them into second spot with a 2-1 victory away to Arlesey Town Reserves. Scott Alleyne netted both goals to chalk up Hatters’ fifth away win on the bounce and to retain their season’s unbeaten away record. Wayne Smith was the Blues marksman, the Town failing to win for a fourth consecutive game.

Also maintaining their interest in the title race are Oakley Sports. They took their unbeaten ways to four games with a 6-1 win at Woburn. Ian Strange (two), Harry Atherton, Ray Patrickson, Shaun Barnett and Darren Minney netted the goals with Martin Holland netting for the Safari Boys who have now failed to win any of their last six home games.

Sharnbrook were also enjoying life on the road. They ended a run of three consecutive away defeats by winning 3-1 at Wilshamstead. Ryan Massey, Martyn Cain and Jack Hoogstraten were on the scoresheet for the visitors against a lone home reply from Ray Baker whose side are now without a win in their last six outings.

Division One

DESPITE having their six-game winning run halted in a 1-1 draw at Lea Sports PSG, Marston Shelton Rovers remain top of Division One after nearest rivals Lidlington United Sports and Bedford Sports Athletic both drew. Aaron Franks netted the United goal against a home reply from Danny Hardacre.

For second place Lidlington there was a 2-2 home stalemate with Ickwell & Old Warden. Steven Hall and Jon Smith were on target for United against replies from Danny Fox and Wayne Morris. Ickwell’s had to play the last 30 minutes with just nine men following red cards for both Tim Gill and Dave Trundley.

That result also saw Ickwell drop from fourth to fifth in the standings after Sandy ended FC Meppershall’s unbeaten away record with a 4-1 victory at the Recreation Ground. Ian Hammett (two), Daniel Stafford and Nathan Morris netted the home goals against a lone reply from Jamie McGregor.

Still third are Bedford Sports Athletic but they needed a 90th minute strike from Asa Mead to retain their season’s unbeaten away record with a 1-1 draw at Meltis Albion. The hosts, now without a win in their last 10 outings, went ahead with a goal from Lewis Prince.

Sixth spot is occupied by Henlow who stretched their unbeaten ways to five games with a 2-0 win at bottom of the table Kings AFC. Jonny Rowe and Charlie Richardson netted the goals to send their hosts to their fifth consecutive defeat.

The biggest winners of the day were Caldecote Reserves. They remain unbeaten on home soil this season after sending AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves to their sixth consecutive defeat with a 5-1 victory. Mark Endersby (two), Bruce Bass, Tom Wallace and Scott Lancaster netted the goals, the reply from Joseph Ogunremi.

Elsewhere Luton Boys came up with their first win in seven outings thanks to a 2-0 home success over Westoning with goals from Steve O’dell and Famik Stephen-Gabriel.

Division Two

IT’S as you were in Division Two following wins for the leading five clubs. For leaders Elstow Abbey it was a 5-0 away win at M & DH Oakley with three goals from Ed’L’Erario, Danny Pilgrim and Dave McCarthy in the opening 13 minutes. Then second half strikes from Pilgrim (again) and Travis Joseph brought up the nap hand to retain Abbey’s unbeaten ways for the season.

Second place AFC Turvey were also retaining their season’s unbeaten ways by going one better. They beat Stopsley Park 6-0 with Adam Broughton bagging a hat-trick plus goals from Mark Allen, Chris Winton and Mike Stephenson. It means Turvey will enjoy their Christmas party with a 100 per cent winning away record for the season.

For third place Sundon Park Rangers it was a 5-3 home victory over Potton United Reserves. Edward Lewis (two), Sam Chapman, Andrew Fox and Samuel Kehinde outscored United whose replies came from Sam Worthington (two) and Sam Bonham.

In fourth spot are Pavenham, following two straight defeats they returned to winning ways with a 6-1 home victory over Shefford Town & Campton Reserves. James Owen with a brace plus strikes from David Neal, David Netherway, Daniel Doyle and Nick Atkins only being replied to by Kevin Rimmer.

For fifth place Bromham United it was a 2-1 win at Queens Park Crescents, the home sides first defeat in eight outings. Mark Daniels and Rob Hewitt the United marksmen against a home reply from Shahiaur Rahman.

This defeat dropping The Crescents down the table in to seventh place and replaced in the top six by Co-op Sports who ran out narrow 2-1 victors at bottom of table Great Barford. A Thomas Miller penalty and a goal from Chris Vardy only being replied to by a strike from George Harris.

Elsewhere, the local derby action at Second Meadow saw Clifton and Marabese Ceramics share the spoils in a 1-1 draw, a Barry Hallybone penalty for Clifton being cancelled out by a strike from Luke Deards for The Tilermen.

Division Three

IT was much the same story in Division Three as in the previous division with wins for the leading four. Leaders Goldington made it nine games unbeaten after a 2-0 home win over a Wilshamstead Reserves side which had won its last five games. Chris Huckle and Damion Quigley netted the goals.

Also winning 2-0 were second place Renhold Village at bottom of table Dunton Reserves, Carl Townsend and Mo Banda both on the scoresheet to send the home side to their fifth consecutive defeat.

For third place Cranfield United Reserves, its now eight games unbeaten away from home after winning 5-0 at Westoning Reserves. All the goals arrived in the opening half, James Armstrong hitting a hat-trick of headers to go alongside strikes from Simon Wade and Dan Cockerton.

In fourth place are Stevington, following three straight defeats they returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory at Kempston Hammers Sports who have now lost their last six outings. Simon Ellis, Jon Devereux and Gavin White on the winner’s scoresheet.

Now in fifth slot are Riseley Sports, they retained their season’s unbeaten away ways with a 5-4 win at The Royal Oak Kempston. Karl Walker with a hat-trick was supported by Alan Spurgeon and James Cooke against home replies from Lorenzo Jordan, David Bevan, Sean Boland and James Pickard.

Losing out on that fifth spot were Eastcotts AFC after they were defeated 8-1 at home by Sundon Park Rangers Colts. Ashley Wadhams netting three times, Kevin Hilton twice alongside single goals for Lee Remond, Ryan Batchelor and Cameron Forbes, the lone reply coming from Kalyan Wilson.

Also enjoying life on the road were Potton Town, they ran out 6-2 winners at Flitwick Town Reserves, Chris Cooper with a hat-trick, Tom Grinstead with a brace plus a goal from Tom Pyman only being replied to twice by Kevin Higby.

Division Four

BEDFORD Park Rangers remain 100 per cent on the road this season and three points clear at the head of Division Four following their 4-2 victory at Dinamo Flitwick. Jamie Carter, Luke Rayner, Shaun Finlay and Jordan Wright all found the the net against home replies from Scott Hannam and Dale Goldie.

Thurleigh retained their 100 per cent away run with win number seven on bounce and a 3-2 victory at Kempston Athletic. Stefan Wilson (two) and Josh Pierre St Claire were on the scoresheet against Ath replies from Gary Whitbread and Carl Catchpole.

Up to third are Marsh Leys following a 2-0 win at fifth place Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves. A goal from David Powell and a penalty from Alex Clipston did the damage.

Dropping out of third spot and now fourth are Stewartby Village. They were held in a goalless draw away to Clifton Reserves but at least they had the consolation of extending their unbeaten ways to four games.

Now in the top six are Shefford Town & Campton ‘A’. For them it was a fourth home win on the bounce a 3-0 victory over Bedford Panthers after Simon Castle grabbed a hat-trick.

Following five straight away defeats, Goldington Hammers put matters right with a 5-3 victory at Caldecote ‘A’ who are now without an home win in their last six outings. Jason Nice and Danny Johnson both netting a brace alongside a single for Ryan Hutton while the two replies came from Gary Allum, Jordan Goodman and Ryan Ambrose.

Also enjoying life on the road were Sandy Reserves. They ended Wootton Village’s four game unbeaten home run with a 4-3 victory. Jonnie Stratford and Chris Gregory both netting twice against the Village’s replies from Lewis Aitken, Ryan Stocker and Steven Woodford.
