Beds League round-up

With the Sharnbrook v Ickwell & Old Warden, Shillington v AFC Oakley M&DH and Wootton Blue Cross v Wilstead ties falling victims to waterlogged pitches just four sides went into action. Two of those being at Harvey Close where the visitors Lidlington United Sports emerged 2-1 winners over hosts Caldecote. Ben Marwood from the penalty spot shooting them ahead on the half-hour mark and after Ricky Aris had levelled matters in the 50th minute up popped Tom Marwood to hit the winning goal 15 minutes later.

At The Hollow, United Counties League Potton United ran out 3-1 winners over Pavenham. Ahead via Jamie Lally in the 42nd minute, the game was still in the balance until Lally netted for a second time 10 minutes from time and Brett Wyman added to the scoreline in the 87th minute before Tom Ellis scored for the visitors a minute from time.

Elsewhere despite goals from Aaron Franks and Jamie Cerminara, Marston Shelton Rovers were beaten 3-2 at South Midlands League The 61FC Luton.

The lone game of the afternoon brought about a second consecutive win for Shefford Town & Campton with a 3-2 home victory over Renhold United to end the visitors unbeaten away ways for the season. Michael Jones twice plus Andrew Hayday netting the vital goals against replies from a Ben Brown penalty and Serge Kadji.

Division One

Goldington’s lead at the head of the division one league table is now down to just two points after they lost their seasons 100% home ways and unbeaten record when beaten 3-0 by AFC Turvey. Adam Broughton with a brace plus Harry Ellis netting the victors goals.

Now back up into second place are Sandy, for them it was a retention of their seasons unbeaten away ways with an 11-0 win at bottom of the table Caldecote Reserves. Liam Brophy netting seven times, Nick Albone twice to go with single strikes from Phil Beall and Mark Jennings.

Whilst just behind them on goal difference in third spot are Sundon Park Rangers who were held to a 2-2 draw at Luton Boys Seniors. Samuel Kehinde from the penalty spot and Matthew Conway on their scoresheet against home replies from Joel Clarke and Ali Mohliyaideen.

Meantime over at Groveside, Henlow chalked up their first win in five outings to send Woburn Lions to their first away defeat of the season in a 6-2 scoreline.Keith Milburn and Russell Ayles both netting twice alongside James Campbell and Matthew Wilson against Lions replies from Martin Holland and Daniel Mclaren.

Elsewhere, Bedford Sports Athletic are now unbeaten in their last five starts after sharing the spoils in a 2-2 home draw with Eastcotts AFC. Ashley Mead netting twice for the home side and Adam Tully twice for the visitors.

However, it was an end to Elstow Abbey’s seasons unbeaten home ways when beaten 3-2 by a Brickhill Tigers side winning on the road for the first time this season. Dom Parrella shooting the Abbey in front in the 11th minute before James Gatwood struck four minutes from the break to send the teams in at half-time all square. Joe Price then gave the Tigers a 72nd minute lead which was to last just 60 seconds until Abbey’s Myles Ferraro netted only to see Kerion Langley score the Tigers winner two minutes from time.

The Bromham United v Shefford Town & Campton Reserves game postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Division Two

All remains the same at the head of the division three league table following wins for the leading three sides. League leaders Potton Town extending their unbeaten ways to seven games with a 6-3 victory at bottom of the table Renhold United Reserves. Chris Moore leading the way with a hat-trick and supported by a brace from Tom Pyman and a single strike from Tim Jarman against three in reply from United’s Justin Patterson.

For second place AFC Oakley Sports M&DH Reserves it was a 2-0 home win over AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves. Matt Barnes and Joe Willie netting the goals. Whilst just goal difference behind them in third spot are Potton United Reserves who won 4-1 at previously unbeaten at home Kings AFC. Salvatore Merola with a brace plus Josh Everitt-Watson and Alex Howarth seeing their goals only replied to once by Oli Plested.

Elsewhere, it was an end to Queens Park Crescents 100% seasons away ways when beaten 3-2 at Clifton. Gareth Boness shooting the home side in front in the 20th minutes until an own goal on the half-hour mark and a strike from Hassan Yousaf three minutes later had the Crescents ahead until Boness levelled matters, from the penalty spot five minutes before the break. Clifton then having to wait until the 90th minute for Neil Ellis to volley home the goal of the day for the winner.

The games AFC Harlington v Great Barford and Co-op Sports v Cranfield United waterlogged off.

Division Three

Like in division two all remains the same at the head of the league standings following wins for the top three clubs. League Leaders Meltis Albion remaining two points clear and still 100% on home soil this season after netting a 6-0 win over Kempston Con Club Sports. Kieran Walsh with a brace supported by strikes from Asa Garlick, Jamie Carson, Alex Clipston and Sylvester Mulenga.

Whilst for second place Westoning it was a retention of their unbeaten and 100% away ways with a 4-2 victory at Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves. Nick Shirley and Thomas Cooksley both netting twice against two in reply from Michael Wheatley.

Also retaining their 100% away ways were third place Stevington with a 3-2 victory at Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves. Gavin White, Aaron Fletcher and Ben Walsh on their scoresheet against Rovers replies from Nathan Evans and Joe Sames.

Now off the bottom of the table are AFC Bush who in recording their first win of the season 4-3 at home over Clifton Reserves sent the visitors after this their seventh consecutive defeat to the bottom of the pile. Jamie Underwood netting all four home goals against replies from George Harris, Joe Marshall and Dale Houghton.

Also winning 4-3 at home were Kempston Athletic to end Wilstead Reserves seasons unbeaten away ways. Gary Whitbread twice plus Mo Banda and Danny Burraway on their scoresheet.

Elsewhere, it was a share of the spoils for Bedford Panthers and Kempston Hammers Sports in a 3-3 draw. Michael Bailey, Aaron Perrett and Gary Philpson netting for the Panthers against Hammers replies via Jamie Peacock twice and Sunnie Sandhu.

Division Four

League leaders FC Houghton remain unbeaten for the season and five points clear at the head of the league table after they recorded their seventh win on the bounce in winning 6-1 at Atletico Europa. Lawrence Taylor and Chris Burdett both netting twice alongside Craig Bunker and Ashley Randell against home replies from Raiqwan Joseph and Tavon Carter.

Also still unbeaten this season and 100% on the road are second place Meltis Albion Reserves who won 6-1 at Dinamo Flitwick. Daniel Reed netting four times to go with single strikes from David Bevan and Jake Taylor against a lone home reply from Josh Pearson.

Yet the shock of the day saw third place Wootton Village lose their 100% home ways when beaten 2-1 at home by bottom of the table Bedford Park Rangers who were netting their first victory of the season. Laurence James and Mikel-Manuel Darkwah with The Rangers goals against a home reply from Aiden Medhurst but the Rangers real hero was goalkeeper Liam Cooke who not only made a series of fine saves but also kept out a 90th minute penalty.

Also winning 2-1 away were Moggerhanger United at Flitwick Town Reserves. Dean Hill grabbing both goals against a Town reply from David Lyons. Whilst for Cranfield United Reserves it was win number three on the bounce via a 6-1 home victory over Caldecote A. Ben Thompson with a hat-trick being supported by single strikes from James Armstrong, Chris Patrickson and Jack Skinner.
