Beds County League Preview: Saturday, January 14, 2012

With the halfway mark of the season now upon us, two Premier Division fixtures see clubs doing battle for the second consecutive weekend.

At Harvey Close, league leaders Caldecote will be defending their season’s 100% home record when visited by local rivals Blunham who, having won just once on the road this season, will be hard pressed to reverse last weekends scoreline at Moggerhanger Playing Fields.

Whilst at Steppingley Road, Flitwick Town now unbeaten in their last two home starts entertain Renhold United who travel in search of away win number three on the bounce and with last weekends clash ending all square another close encounter looks on the cards.

Another club seeking their third away win on the bounce will be Oakley Sports. For them it’s a trip to Hillgrounds to face a home AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College side that in having lost just three in their last 11 outings will be no pushovers and at Miller Road, you would expect hosts Bedford Hatters to return to winning ways and collect the full three points on offer when paid a visit by Sharnbrook.

With just one home win to their name all season, Wilshamstead will be expecting to improve that record when they host a Woburn side that has won just once on the road all season.

Whilst the final fixture comes at The Armadillo Stadium, the venue at which Arlesey Town Reserves seek their first home win since mid-October when visited by local rivals Shefford Town & Campton just a month after being dumped out of The Britannia Cup by them in a 9-1 scoreline at Rectory Close.

In Division One, four of the five fixtures are sides meeting for the second time inside seven days.At Groveside, Henlow now unbeaten since late September on home soil receive a visit from second place Sandy seeking revenge for their 4-1 beating at Bedford Road last weekend.

Whilst at Hurst Grove, Lidlington United Sports will be defending their season’s unbeaten home ways when AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves who have lost their last four away outings come calling.Yet with The Town having held them to a 2-2 last weekend, another shock could be on the cards.

For Lea Sports PSG, it means a rematch at Pirton Recreation Ground against Meltis Albion.The hosts looking for their first home win of the season and a quick-fire double over their visitors who have won just once on the road all season.

Over at Greenfield Road, Westoning will be hosting Kings AFC on the outlook for just their second home win of the season against a Kings side that are yet to win on the road this season but who will travel full of confidence after last weekends home win over their hosts.

The fifth fixture coming at Marston Playing Fields,where Marston Shelton Rovers will be defending their season’s unbeaten home ways against a Luton Boys side that travel seeking their first away point/points of the season on a high following their home win over Ickwell & Old Warden last weekend

Three other division one clubs are in Quarter-Final action in The Bedfordshire FA Intermediate Cup. On The Green, Ickwell & Old Warden receive a visit from Spartan South Midlands League side Crawley Green Reserves and Bedford Sports Athletic face opposition from the same league when they journey to Kingsway Recreation Ground to face The 61FC Luton Reserves.

The third club being FC Meppershall, who hit the road for a meeting with Luton District & South Beds League side St Joseph.

It’s a similar story in division two with three of the seven games being re-matches from last weekend.At The Warren, Elstow Abbey will be defending their season’s unbeaten ways against a Great Barford side that are yet to win this season and having lost on home soil 6-1 last weekend, perhaps a miracle is required by the visitors if they are to obtain their revenge.

Whilst at Second Meadow, Clifton receive a visit from Queens Park Crescents who travel looking to stretch their unbeaten away ways to five games and secure a quick-fire double following last weekends 4-2 home win.

The third re-match coming at Rectory Road, the venue where Shefford Town & Campton Reserves will be hosting Marabese Ceramics.With the visitors having won at just Great Barford in their eight away outings to date, one would expect The Town to take their unbeaten home ways to three games.

Over at Stonefields, AFC Turvey look to maintain their title challenge when they host local rivals M & DH Oakley and with Bromham United now unbeaten in their last five home starts you would expect them to collect the full three points when they are visited by a Potton United Reserves side whose last six away outings have all ended in defeat.

At Solway Road North, Co-op Sports host local rivals Stopsley Park.The hosts having been beaten just twice on home soil this season the favourites to collect the points against a Park side that travel looking to end a three game losing away run.

The final game comes in Mowsbury Park, the venue where Pavenham beaten just twice on home soil this season host a Sundon Park Rangers side who are now unbeaten in their last five league outings.

In division three there are also three re-matches from last weekend.At Renhold Playing Fields, Renhold Village still 100% on home soil this season are visited by Flitwick Town Reserves who travel having lost all of their eight away outings to date.The Village looking for a quick fire double after last weekends 5-3 win at Steppingley Road.

Whilst you would expect Goldington now on an 11 game unbeaten run to at least share the spoils when they travel to face Stevington at their Playing Field headquarters, after beating them 6-1 on home soil last weekend.

The third re-match coming at Cutler Hammer, where hosts Kempston Hammers Sports look to end a two game losing home run against Royal Oak Kempston.The visitors having lost their last five outings including a 7-1 home loss to The Hammers last weekend looking to have their hands full in seeking revenge.

In the other quartet of games the odds seem to favour the home side in three of the four clashes.At Crawley Road, Cranfield United Reserves will start the day having been beaten just once in their last 11outings when visited by a Westoning Reserves side who have won just twice on the road all season and at Gold Street, hosts Riseley Sports look to take their unbeaten ways up to seven games when Sundon Park Rangers Colts come calling.

The third home club expected to collect the full three points are Potton Town who host local rivals Dunton Reserves at Mill Lane.Town unbeaten in their last five league outings facing a Dunton Reserves side whose six away league outings to date have all ended in defeat.

Elsewhere,Eastcotts AFC host Wilshamstead Reserves at Weston Park.The visitors having been beaten just once in their last eight outings the favourites to collect the spoils despite the hosts losing just twice on home soil all season.

In division four there are six re-matches in the seven fixtures. Mowsbury Park being the venue for two of those games, Bedford Park Rangers beaten just once on home soil this season hosting a Clifton Reserves side that have tasted defeat just once on the road this season yet travel looking to reverse last weekends 6-3 scoreline at Whiston Crescent.

Goldington Hammers having lost their last two home outings look to repair the damage when visited by Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves who beat them 4-0 last weekend on The Green.

Over at Hillgrounds, Kempston Athletic having lost their last five home games will be in action against Wootton Village,revenge for last weekends

4-1 beating the target.Whilst at Keysoe Road, you would expect Thurleigh having been beaten just once on home soil all season to collect the full three points when visited by a Dinamo Flitwick side who have won just once on the road all season and whom they beat on their own patch 6-1 last weekend.

At Stewartby Way, Stewartby Village look to take their unbeaten ways up to seven games when visited by Shefford Town & Campton A who they beat 4-3 last weekend. Whilst for Bedford Panthers, with just one home win to their name all season the visitors to face them at The Bedford Hockey Centre are Marsh Leys who will arrive still unbeaten on the road this season and fresh from their 4-0 home win over The Panthers last weekend.

The final game being between Sandy Reserves and Dunton A at Bedford Road Recreation Ground, the hosts in search of just their second home win of the season against their visitors who have lost all of their nine away games to date.
