Bedfordshire League: Sharnbrook the shoot-out kings in Senior Trophy

Sharnbrook were to produce the result of the day in the Beds FA Senior Trophy on Saturday by seeing off Ickwell & Old Warden 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out.

After 90 minutes play had seen the sides deadlocked at 3-3. Jordan Baxter, Chris Prior and Johnny Butler on their scoresheet against a hat-trick in reply from Dean Hamilton. The same three players plus Alex Thompson turned out to be the home sides penalty kings.

Sharnbrook earned themselves an away quarter-final tie at 61FC Luton.

Also requiring a penalty shoot-out to earn a home quarter-final tie, against Bedford, were Shillington en route to beating AFC Oakley Sports M&DH 3-2 after 90 minutes had seen the sides all square at 2-2.

Jordan Robbens and Phil Bright were the Shills scorers in normal time against replies from Arran Wright and Antony Richens whilst the spot kick kings turned out to be Jack Preston, Ryan Lewis and Brett Leader.

In the third tie, Wootton Blue Cross with an 85th minute strike from Nathan Mullett, were 1-0 home winners over Wilstead to earn a last eight away tie at Lidlington United Sports.

AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College’s lead is now down to just two points after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Flitwick Town. Richie Bevan netted the home goal and Josh Sturniolo answered for the visitors to retain their season’s unbeaten ways.

Now in second spot just those two points adrift are Lidlington United Sports who won 4-2 at Shefford Town & Campton. Alex Burrows with a brace plus Ben Marwood and James Snowden bagged the goals to do the damage against home scores from Andrew Hayday and Michael Jones.

Jumping up the table into fourth are Renhold United following their 3-2 home win over Caldecote. Ahead via an own goal from Stuart Haddow in the 20th minute, United were to double their lead in the 35th minute via Tommy Foyle until Paul Lawrence reduced the deficit to 2-1 on the stroke of half-time. Within four minutes of the restart, Glen Renforth from a free kick had matters all square at 2-2 before Serge Kadji hit United’s winner 15 minutes from time.

For Marston Shelton Rovers it was an end to their 100% home ways when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Pavenham.

Division One

Goldington’s leade is now up to five points following their 4-0 home win over Brickhill Tigers, Sheldon Washington with a brace plus Robert Ginn and Glen Tumulty netting the goals.

Their lead increased after Sundon Park Rangers missed the chance to jump into second above the non-playing Sandy by losing 2-1 at Marabese Ceramics who are now unbeaten in their last six starts.

Richard Follano from the penalty spot and a strike from Brad Voought were on the mark for the Tilermen against a Rangers reply from Jordan Holmes.

Still in fourth spot are AFC Turvey who won 4-1 at Luton Boys Seniors to end the home side’s five game unbeaten home run. Mark Allen with a brace plus Adam Boughton and Lawrence Bentham scored for Turvey, Ali Mohiyaldeen replied for Luton.

Just goal difference behind in fifth place are Elstow Abbey who were 3-0 home winners over Bromham United. Dom Parrella with a brace in the 62nd and 84th minutes being supported by a strike in the 64th minute from Jason Harrison to mark his 100th appearance in Abbey colours.

Still unbeaten at home this season are sixth place Eastcotts AFC who emerged 3-0 winners over Shefford Town & Campton Reserves. Ciaran Alexander netting twice and Kaylin Wilson once.

Also enjoying life on home soil were Henlow as they ended Bedford Sports Athletics’ five game unbeaten run with a 2-0 victory. Russell Ayles netting both goals.

Division Two

Potton Town are now four points clear after a goal in the 70th minute from Mark Mijalski saw them to a 1-0 home win over AFC Harlington to retain their 100% home ways and season’s unbeaten record - and then learn their two nearest rivals had suffered defeats.

Second place AFC Oakley Sports M&DH Reserves lost their 100% away record by going down 4-2 at Kings AFC. Oli Plested twice plus Chaz Lee-Martin and Tyrone Kelly were on the home scoresheet against replies via Jimmy Grandidge and Tom Dickson.

For third place Potton United Reserves it was a 2-0 away defeat at Riseley Sports. Paul Brown and Lloyd Pollock on the mark.

Also helping Town’s cause were bottom of the table Renhold United Reserves who picked up their first point of the season in a 3-3 draw at fourth place Queens Park Crescents. Justin Patterson twice plus Sukai Gharu on United’s scoresheet against home replies via Shezad Sattar twice and Ayaz Hussain.

Elsewhere, it was an end to Clifton’s 100% away record after they were beaten 4-3 at AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves. Paul Garrett twice plus Ashley Phelan and Humbento Ybonazo on the Town’s scoresheet against replies from Tony Norman with a brace and Gareth Boness.

Also losing their 100% away record were Cranfield United who were held to a 3-3 draw at Great Barford. Michael Pickard twice, both from the penalty spot and Jordan Morrison scored for the home side against United replies from David Adderson with a brace and Jim Armstrong.

Meltis Albion’s lead is now up to five points after they won 5-1 at bottom side Clifton Reserves - and second place Westoning lost their unbeaten ways in a 2-1 home defeat by Elstow Abbey Reserves.

Alex Clipson twice plus Sylvester Mulenga, Adam Cranny and Calum Stuart were on The Albion scoresheet against a lone reply from Alex Philpott while over at Greenfield Road, Lee Rosborough and Sean Hendry netted for The Abbey against a home goal from Stuart Jeffrey.

Going one better than the Albion were Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves who won 6-1 at Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves. Carl Borromeo and Sam Staney both scored twice alongside Nathan Evans and Matt Jarman for The Rovers, Peter Smith scored for the hosts.

Also winning on the road were Kempston Athletic and Bedford Panthers.

Athletic retained their unbeaten away ways with a 4-2 win at Kempston Con Club Sports thanks to a brace from Gary Whitbread and single goals from Adam Moloney and Gavin Matthews against Con Club replies via an own goal and James Coates.

The Panthers, with two goals from Aaron Perrett and a strike from Gary Phillpson, won 3-2 at Wilstead Reserves for whom Hanni Thiarra and Matt Johnson found the back of the net.

Elsewhere, Kempston Hammers Sports are now unbeaten in their last three starts after chalking up a 4-2 home win over second bottom side AFC Bush. Alex Pullinger twice plus Nick Tysoe and Sunnie Sandhu from the penalty spot seeing their goals only replied to by Daniel Thomson and Jamie Underwood for The Bush.

Division Four

For league leaders FC Houghton it was an end to their unbeaten ways and seven game winning run when they were defeated 2-1 at Sandy Reserves - enjoying their first win in six outings. Phill Beall and Ryan Gregory on the Sandy scoresheet against the reply from Mark Doran.

So now just two points behind them in the league standings are Meltis Albion Reserves who retained their unbeaten ways with a 5-3 home win over Flitwick Town Reserves. Josh St Clair Pierre with a hat-trick supported by goals from Jake Taylor and Craig Damon against Town replies via Nick Atkins, Paul Nockells and Ben Ward.

Sitting in third are Wootton Village, for them it was a 4-1 victory at Caldecote A where Adam Flynn netted all four goals against a Matt Basta penalty reply.

Just goal difference behind them in fourth place are Cranfield United Reserves who ran out 4-2 home winners over Shefford Town & Campton A. Ryan Bate netting twice alongside Peter Kerr and Chris Patrickson for United against Town replies from Tim Andrews and Chris Hales.

For fifth place Clapham Sports it was a 4-0 win at Moggerhanger United to end the home sides three game winning run. Mario Esposito, Liam Bolton, Karl Eccles and Martyn Hull scoring the goals to do the damage.

Down at the other end of the table, Bedford Park Rangers lifted themselves off the bottom spot in style with a 6-1 home victory over a Dinamo Flitwick side losing for the first time on the road this season. Tony Anyanwu led the way with a hat-trick supported by strikes from Gregory Etheridge, Laurence James and Matthew Westwood against a lone reply from Josh Pearson.

Elsewhere goals from Jay Smith, Jack Wills and Ben Bryan took Mid Beds Tigers to a 3-2 home win over Atletico Europa.
