Bedfordshire League round-up

Layne Eadie gave United the lead after 20 minutes before Dan Webb levelled matters nine minutes later.

Up into second spot and still with a perfect home record are Renhold United who ran out 2-1 winners over Dunton. Paul Mercer gave the visitors the lead in the opening minute and when Nicky Threadgold saved a penalty from Jason Allison, Dunton started thinking it might be their day. However, an Alex Woolston strike 10 minutes into the second period levelled matters up before James Allen hit United’s winner five minutes from time.

Also only trailing on goal difference are Wilshamstead after a 4-2 home win over Oakley Sports. Two goals from Colin Marshall and strikes from Paul Jones and Chris Faulkner retaining Wilshamstead’s unbeaten home record, whilst the Sportsmen’s replies came from Sam Watkins and Stuart Kelly.

Sitting in fourth and with a game in hand on all the top three clubs are Blunham, 7-1 winners at Biggleswade United Reserves. Andy Smith led the way with four goals, whilst Carl Page weighed in with a brace to go with the single strike from Matthew McMahon, United’s lone reply coming from Lucas Banton.

For Caldecote, it was another home win, this time a 3-1 win over Arlesey Town Reserves, Mark Phillips with a brace plus a strike from Jack Gabbitas only being replied to by a goal from Town’s Paul Whitehouse.

Also still 100 per cent at home are Flitwick Town, Dean Warren, Rob Almond and Jim Lewis netting the goals that did the damage in a 3-0 win over AFC Kempston town.

Sharnbrook grabbed their first in a 2-2 home draw with Southill Alexander, Andy Wood netting twice for the home side against replies from Lawrence Revell and Rob Teppett.

Division One

Potton Wanderers are now up into second spot following their 5-1 home win over Sandy. Craig Schurek led the way with a hat-trick supported by goals from Luke Gurney and Dean Hamilton against a lone reply from Ian Hammett.

For Blunham Reserves,it required a last minute goal from Mark Davidson for them to hold onto their unbeaten home record in a 2-2 stalemate with FC Meppershall.

Danny Wing shot the visitors ahead only to see Stan Hobbs level matters up, then Chris Dunne missed the opportunity to give the home side the lead by missing from the penalty spot, an error that looked costly when Christain Robinson restored the lead for the visitors before Dudsy saved his bacon with that last minute strike.

Brache Sparta Community Reserves lifted themselves off the bottom with a 2-1 home win over Luton Old Boys. Harron Khan netted both of the home goals against a reply from Ashley Wadhams.

Elsewhere, Henlow had their fourth away win on the bounce, 1-0 at Caldecote Reserves, Pete Saunders netting the goal.

Beds FA Internediate Cup

Sharing the top honours in the opening round were Bedford Hatters and Meltis Albion, cue party time at Miller Road.

Hatters ran out 3-0 home winners over United Counties League outfit AFC Kempston Rovers Reserves thanks to a brace of goals from Darek Jozwiak and a strike from Richard Cook to set up a second round home tie against Henlow.

Meltis Albion won 1-0 at Molten Spartan South Midlands League, 61FC Luton Reserves, and visit Heath Panthers United in round two, Alex Goosby netting the goal.

AFC Kempston Town Reserves were beaten 2-0 at home by Langford Reserves.

Marston Social were forced to call off their home tie with Leighton Town Reserves due to a shortage of players.

Division Two

Queens Park Crescents lost the leadership when beaten 0-2 by Clifton, who climbed up into second. Tom McNaught slotted home a 25th minute penalty before ensuring his side of all three points with a second ten minutes from time.

The new leaders are Arlesey Social Galacticos, 5-3 winners at Kings AFC. Goals from Jim Gentry, Scott Leger, Jon Rowe, Chris Robinson and a Mark McMillan penalty only being replied to by strikes from Oliver Pleastead, Rowan Hazelwood and Dan Cain.

Elstow Abbey came from behind to earn a 2-1 home win over Great Barford. Kevin Fage gave the visitors a first half lead before Tom Pitts levelled matters 20 minutes into the second period and Harry Ellis hit the winner.

Westoning Recreation Club had their game at Kempston Hammers Sports called off when the home side failed to raise a side.

Lea Sports PSG were the day’s top scorers with a 9-1 victory at Harpur. Sam Luciano with a hat-trick, plus Haydon Fletcher and Greg Whelan with braces were supported by single strikes from Dean Lewis and Juan Camello.

Shefford Town & Campton Reserves beat Stevington 5-3, Paul Still with a brace plus goals from Jordan Robbins, Wayne Paxton and Jake Brown only being replied to by Darren King, Aaron Fletcher and Greg King.

Bromham United required just a single goal from Dean Waghorn to win 1-0 at Lidlington United Sports.

Stopsley Park and Marabese Ceramics shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw, James Smart and Michael Buckingham on target for The Park against visitors replies from Colin Stanley and Josh Pierre St Claire.

Division Three

Pavenham are still 100 per ceent for the season and three points clear at the head of the division three table after recording win number six on the bounce with a 4-0 home victory over Shefford Town & Campton A. James Owen hit a hat-trick supported by a strike from Tim Bowers.

Chasing them hard in second and third slots and both with a game in hand are M & DH Oakley and Sharnbrook Reserves. M & DH enjoyed a 5-0 home success over Flitwick Town Reserves thanks to a Scott Rothery hat-trick plus goals from Ben Meaney and Jamie MacLenan. Sharnbrook Reserves had a fifth win on the bounce, 2-0 Dunton Reserves thanks to goals from Mark Smith and James Whitmore.

Sundon Park Rangers enjoyed a 4-1 win over Royal Oak Kempston. Nick Buttigieg saw his two goals haul being added to via an own goal plus a strike from Chris Hazell against a lone reply from Liam Boland.

Co-Op Sports emerged 3-1 winners at Riseley Sports, Thomas Miller, Andrew Ayres and Andrew Randell on the scoresheet against a reply from Johnny Jefferies.

Elsewhere, Westoning Rec Reserves chalked up a 7-1 victory over Wilshamstead Reserves. Joe Rogers scored twice plus strikes from Liam Boyle, Andrew Morris, John Bass, Ian Buckingham and an own goal only being replied to by Neil Gregg.

Division Four

Goldington lost the league leadership when beaten 2-4 at home by Eastcotts. Braces of goals from Ciaran Alexander and Michael Sexton outscored home replies from Karl Anderson and James Morris.

The new league leaders are AFC Turvey who won 6-0 at Stewartby Village, John Guiney on target four times alongside Mark Allen and Martin Page.

Thurleigh leapfrogged Eastcotts into third with a 7-0 win at Sandy Reserves. Goalless at the break,the visitors - with four from Mikey Peters including a hat-trick inside three minutes plus goals from Liam Bolton, Steve Pledge and a Adam Layton penalty - romped to a easy win.

A lone strike from Daniel Cowperwaite took Goldington Hammers to a 1-0 home win over Lea Sports PSG Reserves. Tony Norman’s goal could not save Clifton Reserves from a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Wootton Village, Adam Flynn with a brace plus Lewis Aitken scoring.

Kempston Athletic lost 4-3 to Dinamo Flitwick. Andy Carlin with a hat-trick plus Mark Funnell the Dinamo scorers against goals from Jason Bedall, Ben Norrish and Tom Roberts.
