Bedfordshire League preview: September 20

For league leaders Renhold United the visitors to face them at their Playing Field headquarters are Eastcotts AFC.

Whilst at their own Playing Field base second place Marston Shelton Rovers face a tough looking fixture against fourth place Flitwick Town and over at Hitchin Road, third place Shefford Town & Campton will be fully aware it’s never an easy task to take the full three points off the visiting Caldecote.

After two consecutive home defeats perhaps AFC Turvey will be pleased to be on the road to Hurst Grove to face an outing against home side Lidlington United Sports who will be looking for a point or more to lift themselves off the bottom of the league table and perhaps above Pavenham, who will almost certainly start second favourites when called upon by AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College.

Still in search of their first win of the season are Sandy who will en route for a Weston Park meeting against Wootton Blue Cross who sit just one point and one place above them in the league standings at the wrong end of the league table. Whilst for Ickwell & Old Warden its a trip to Lodge Road and a meeting with hosts Sharnbrook.

The final top flight game is at Jubilee Playing Fields where hosts Wilstead welcome the still unbeaten AFC Oakley M&DH.

In Division One supported by Wests Citroen Bedford action current league leaders Henlow will be looking to preserve their seasons 100% record when AFC Harlington come calling on them at Groveside seeking their first win of the season. Whilst second place Sundon Park Rangers face a much tougher encounter this week when they journey for a Rectory Road meeting with Shefford Town & Campton Reserves.

It’s a third versus fifth clash at Crawley Road where hosts Cranfield United put their seasons unbeaten record on the line when visited by fifth place Meltis Albion.

The club currently squeezed between them in the league table, Elstow Abbey, place their own 100% record on the table when they head for a Mill Lane outing against a yet to win this season Potton Town.

Having had a far from happy return to the league last weekend Brache Sparta will hope for better when they make their home debut at Dallow Road, but things will not be easy as the visitors are sixth place AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves.

Sitting in second bottom place are Great Barford who will go into Fisher Close action against Marabese Ceramics where the task for both clubs will be to achieve their opening win of the season.

Other action comes at Gold Street, the venue at which hosts Riseley Sports welcome from Bedford SA and at King George VI Playing Fields where AFC Oakley M&DH Reserves go into home action against Queens Park Crescents.

In Division Two with league leaders Meltis Albion Reserves sitting the afternoon out, Westoning have the chance to climb to the top of the table when they play hosts to second from bottom of the table Kempston Con Club Sports at Greenfield Road and a win for Elstow Abbey Reserves at the Warren against bottom of the table Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves would also see them leap above the Meltis in the league standings.

Over at their Wootton Playing Field headquarters fifth place Wootton Village look to edge even closer to the top of the table with a victory over the visiting Renhold United Reserves, a comment that also applies to Kempston Hammers Sports when they go into home Cutler Hammer action against a yet to win Wilstead Reserves.

Other action coming at the Hockey Centre, the venue at which hosts Bedford United face Clapham Sports and at Harvey Close where Caldecote Reserves entertain local rivals Moggerhanger United.

For Division three league leaders Cranfield United Reserves it’s a trip to Bedford Road Recreation Ground to face Sandy Reserves and should they fail to collect all three points their position at the head of the table could be taking over by either Dinamo Flitwick or Flitwick Town Reserves should a positive result either way come from their meeting on the 3G surface at Redborne School.

Also in with a chance of claiming that top spot depending on the results of the above two games going their way are Atletico Europa who will be fully expected to gain the full three points from their trip to Horseshoes Close where they will be hosted by bottom of the table Moggerhanger United Reserves.

Down on the Green based on last weekend’s result Shefford Town & Campton A will be the favourites to gain the three points from the hosting Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves.

Just down the road at Harvey Close, second from bottom of the table Caldecote U20 look for their first point/points of the season when called upon by Clifton.

Other action comes at Bedford Academy, the venue at which FC Serbia play hosts to Lea Sports PSG and at Sandy Place Academy where Mid Beds Tigers host the visiting Westoning U20.
