Bedfordshire League preview: February 27

For current league leaders Renhold United the destination is Bedford Road Recreation Ground to be hosted by 13th place Sandy you will be looking for just their fourth home win of the season.

Whilst second place AFC Oakley M&DH head towards Harvey Close for a meeting with third from bottom of the table Caldecote. The hosts look for just their second home win of the season against an M&DH side that as lost just the once on the road all season.

The battle for this season’s bronze medal looks to between five clubs and this weekend two of those clubs go head to head when at Jubilee Playing Fields where third place Wilstead have been beaten just the twice all season. The visitors are sixth place Ampthill Town Reserves who have not won on the road since winning at Sandy back in mid-December some six games ago.

For both of the bottom two clubs it’s home action when at the Warren bottom of the table. Elstow Abbey go in search of just their second win of the season against ninth place Marston Shelton Rovers who have won just the one of their last six away league outings.

Whilst at Weston Park for second from bottom of the table Eastcotts AFC its the search of home win number three of the season against the visiting fifth place Flitwick Town who will hit the road looking to end a run of four away league games without a victory.

The final action in this division coming on the Green being the venue at which tenth place Ickwell & Old Warden with just four home wins to their name all season play hosts to eighth place Shefford Town & Campton who will arrive on the Green looking for their third consecutive away win.

The main spotlight for Division One supported by Wests Citroen Bedford sides falls upon the Semi-final ties in this season’s Bedfordshire FA Intermediate Cup.

Over at Stockwood Park Athletic Track for hosts Sundon Park Rangers the visitors are AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves and with the Rangers having already secured a league double over the Town this season they will start the day the favourities.

However for Henlow the task of joining one of their fellow league members in the final looks a lot tougher has they head into Luton to be be hosted by South Midlands League side Crawley Green Reserves.

This cup action leavleavesing us with just four league fixtures. In Allen Park for the hosting third place Queens Park Crescents who have lost just the twice on home soil all season the visitors are third from bottom of the table Westoning who will hit the road in search of their fourth away win of the season.

Whilst at Langford Recreation Ground for fifth place Ickleford its the quest to repair the damage of two consecutive home league defeats when called upon by fourth place Meltis Albion whose league away defeats to date total just the two.

Other action comes at Gold Street the venue at which tenth place Riseley Sports receive a visit from second from bottom of the table Houghton Athletic who have won just the once on the road all season and at Church Lane for bottom of the table AFC Oakley M&DH Reserves who are still in search of their first home league win of the season the visitors are eighth place Potton Town who will hit the road in search of their third away win on the bounce to take their unbeaten league ways up to six games.

For Division Two sides the spotlight falls upon the Quater-final ties in this season’s Jubilee Cup. For league leaders Cranfield United that means an home tie at Crawley Road against bottom of the table Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves which you would expect them to win to earn a home last four tie against Clapham Sports or Bedford United who meet at King George VI Playing Fields where the Sportsmen with a seasons 100% home league record will start the day firm favourties.

In the other half of the draw at Grange Road for the hosting Cople & Bedford SA beaten just the once in league action on home soil this season the visitors are Atletico Europa and for the winners awaits a trip on the road at the last four stage to either Kempston Hammers Sports or Flitwick Town Reserves who this weekend meet at Cutler Hammer.

The spotlight for the other lower division sides falls upon the outstanding ties yet to be played in the opening two rounds of this seasons Watson Shield. Over at Whiston Crescent we are still at the first round stage where hosts Clifton receive a visit from Bedfordshire Saturday Youth side Ampthill Town for the right to host Bedford Albion in round two. Likewise at Greenfield Road Westoning Reserves will look to play their first home game of 2016 when called upon by Sandy Reserves for which a trip to Lidlington United Sports awaits the winners in round two.

Meantime it’s second round action at Horseshoes Close where division three AFC Dunton entertain division four Stevington Reserves for which an home tie at the last eight stage awaits the winners against either AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College A or Bedfordshire Saturday League side Scared Heart Offley who at the same time will be doing battle on the 3G surface at Hillgrounds.

Elsewhere over at Renhold Playing Fields for division three Renhold United Reserves the visitors are division four Henlow Reserves and the reward for the winners is the right to play hosts at the Quarter-finals stage against Wixams or Dinamo Flitwick who meet on the 3G surface in an all division three clash where the hosts will start the day firm favouities to progress.

Whilst in Mowsbury Park its another all division three clash between the hosting White Eagles and the visiting Sundon Park Rovers for which a trip to either division three Shefford Town & Campton A or division four Caldecote A who meet at Rectory Road awaits the winners at the last eight stage.
