Bedfordshire League preview: December 29

Heavy rain saw all 27 scheduled games in the Bedfordshire League postponed on Saturday due to waterlogged pitches, writes Peter Francis.

This weekend in the Premier Division, leaders Caldecote entertain second-from-bottom Wilshamstead at Harvey Close.

The hosts will be looking to retain their season-long unbeaten home run by notching up a seventh-straight league win, while the visitors are searching for their first away points of the season.

Second-placed Oakley Sports M&DH host fifth-placed Ickwell & Old Warden at their Playing Field headquarters.

The Sportsmen are in search of their fourth home win on the bounce, while the men from The Green are looking to stretch their unbeaten away streak to five games.

With third place Renhold United sitting the afternoon out, fourth place Arlesey Town Reserves will climb above them in the league should they gain a point or more from their Armadillo Stadium home outing against Shefford Town & Campton.

To achieve that the hosts will have to find a way to end their current three-game losing run against a Town side who are better away from home.

In Division Two, leaders Goldington are looking to stretch their lead at the top to four points when bottom-of-the-table Queens Park Crescents visit Mowsbury Park.

However, it was the Crescents though who removed Goldington from The Beds FA Junior Cup at the same venue back at the beginning of the month.

Westoning Reserves could jump up into third place in Division Three if they can triumph at The Green against Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves.

In the first round of the Watson Shield, Division Four Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves will fancy their chances of a spot of giant-killing when they face Division Three’s bottom side Royal Oak Kempston.
