Bedford Sunday League round-up

Premier side London Road Supreme travelled a long way to lose at Leighton Orient, not the Leyton Orient, in the Sunday Cup 6-4 after extra time.

Constant & Co. continued their good form to beat Dynamo Letchworth 4-3 in the Sunday Junior Cup, but Bird in Hand Lower Stondon got beaten 6-3 at home to Luton Athletic in the Sunday Lower Junior Cup.

Both Shillington Pirates and AC Atletico progressed into the Quarter Finals of the Sunday Centenary Cup. The Pirates ransacked Wigmore Sports 9-1 in Luton, with goals from Adam Chambers, Alex Toy, Gavin Morris, Matt Allen and Sam Larsen, with Rosh Woodbridge and Andrew Hayday weighing in with a couple each. AC were a little more refined beating Dunstable St. Mary’s only 4-0 at home. AC will now meet the Pirates in the next round. GNG Tigers dropped out of the competition after going down 3-2 at home to Royal Oak, Barton.

Meanwhile in a decimated league programme, Haynes hosted Dunton Sunday in the Premier Division and kindly shared the six goals. This welcome point did not lift Dunton off the bottom, but gave Haynes a gap between themselves and the bottom three clubs.

In the only game of Division One 21st Century came out on top of bottom club London Road Supreme Reserves 3-1, leaving London Road still searching for their first point. Century should have been ahead by the break but London Road’s keeper, Simms, was in inspired form and they turned round with the score still goalless. The second half produced the break-through for Century with Deep Banghard scoring his first hat-trick of the season. London Road got one goal back but that was not enough to threaten getting a point. Man of the match was Century’s Mak Kumar who supplied all the quality ball for his front runners.

Marston Reds are finding the going tough in Division Two, succumbing to Cranfield Sunday at home 3-0.

There was more action in Division Three and twenty-two goals in the three games played. Renhold are top by two points after spanking Black Tom Rangers 8-0. The players causing the damage for Renhold were Dale Matthews with a hat-trick, and one for brother James. Scott Mann scored two and the others came from Chris Powell, and debutant Nick Mistry with a 25 yard shot into the top corner of the net, which convinced Renhold to make him their man of the match. Bedford Allsters matched Renhold’s eight but let Wells Stars reply with three.

In the other match, Salento halted Bumblebee’s recent good run with a 2-1 home victory. The Bees took the lead in the first half, but Salento scored twice in the second half through Marco Fregapane, ably assisted by Paulo Santos, and skipper Marco Catrambone, who produced a delicate flick for number two.

Moor Lane Meltis have hit the top of Division Four after beating bottom club Bellini’s 4-3, whilst Bedford Albion beat BMC 3-1 at Biddenham School.

Harrold & Carlton Reserves’s game against Fox & Hounds Clapham was the only one played in Division Five. It ended one apiece, but Harrold played the better football in the first half, deserving their half-time lead which was neatly tucked away by Nick Taylor. Clapham played much better in the second half and they drew level when Jason Ruff placed his shot nicely into the corner of Harrold’s net.

A number of postponed county cup games will be attempted again on Sunday.Clive Milton
