Bedford FC started their pre-season friendlies on Saturday with a fine 2-0 win at Long Buckby AFC.
Bedford travelled the 40 miles north on what was a scorching day and looked reasonably comfortable over the 90 minutes.
The Bucks, who finished sixth in the UCL Divison One last season, came out strongly but a brace from Bedford’s newly signed striker Sam Smith either side of half-time made the difference.
The first goal, an overhead kick from inside the box, seemed to settle the nerves and after the break Bedford had the better possession taking their second from the penalty spot mid-way through the half.
The squad entertained Kempston Town at home on Tuesday night, coming out on top winning 4-0 with four different strikers on the scoresheet.
Next up at McMullen Park are Eynesbury Rovers from the UCL Premier on Saturday at 3pm followed by Bedford Town on Tuesday night.
