Ampthill Town began their pre-season programme with a 3-3 draw at home to Potters Bar Town on Saturday.
Ampthill let a three -goal lead slip, but Derwayne Stupple’s side gave a promising display, with all of the goals coming in the second half.
Town began brightly against the higher grade opponents, and Dan Butler and Ed Skinner had early openings.
Fraser Maidment also had a chance later in the half as Town took the game to the Scholars.
But the openings were converted after the break as Ampthill raced into a three-goal lead before the hour mark.
Dan Butler opened the scoring after a good ball from midfield, and Butler supplied the pass for Clarke to drill home the second before Arrun Ramsey added the third.
But both sides rang the changes and Bowditch pulled one back for the visitors from a corner.
Ashley Parker reduced the arrears further, before George Boot grabbed a leveller for Potters Bar with the last kick of the match.
There was plenty of enterprise and creativity from the young Ampthill side, who face UCL opposition in their remaining pre-season matches.
They host Cogenhoe on Saturday, before visiting Newport Pagnell on Tuesday and Eynesbury on Saturday week, prior to a midweek trip to Olney.
Ampthill’s new season in SSML Division One begins with two home games, against Southall on Saturday, August 8 followed by a visit from promoted New Bradwell on Tuesday, August 11.
They face fellow Division One side Risborough in the FA Cup on August 15, before a midweek trip to Codicote.
Brimsdown come to Ampthill on Saturday, August 22, before a midweek trip to Langford.
