The new year got off to a bad start for Ampthill Town when they fell to a 5-1 defeat at second placed Edgware on Saturday.
Town not only had to compete with their in-form hosts, but also had to contend with a Edgeware’s artificial playing surface.
Ampthill were unable to adjust to this in the first half and were 4-0 down by half time with a goal each from Luke Durnin and Nick Turner and two from Jay Molloy.
Brad Clarke pulled one back for Town in the second half, but Molloy completed his hat-trick to send Town to their third league defeat in recent weeks.
Ampthill faced another tough challenge last night when they were due to visit Crawley Green.
Town are on their travels again on Saturday when they go to Broadfield United’s Harefield base, their hosts having already beaten them twice at Woburn Road in the league and Division One Cup.
Town return home on Saturday week when they face Hillingdon in the first of three home league games.
