AFC maintain title challenge with victory over Boston

Dom Marsala and Robbie Goodman got the goals for Rovers to keep them just one point behind Nirvana, who registered a 3-2 success at third-bottom Wellingborough Town on Saturday.

It was a good response from Kempston, who bounced back from their first league defeat of the season after they were beaten by Eynesbury in their previous outing.

Speaking after the game, Kempston boss Jimmy Stoyles said: “Boston beat the league’s in-form side Newport Pagnell a few weeks ago so we knew it was a very tough place to win at.

“We could sense a bit of a change in the lads; more relaxed but with real focus, and you could see this in our play.

“From the first whistle to the last we dominated the ball and the game with a disciplined, managed, quality performance.

“Our midfield ran the game with good passing on a poor pitch and great energy, and both wide boys were tricky with good quality.

“Number 9 Jermaine Ivy occupied both centre-backs with a top performance and brought all into the game. We made three changes in the second half – all having a positive impact, especially Josh Crawley.

“The only negatives were a missed penalty and chances missed as we should have scored six or seven, but we got the performance we wanted and the three points that we came for.”
