Bedford’s Mighty Eagles have secured both the men’s and women’s titles in the National Dodgeball Premier League after an outstanding season for the local sides.
The women’s team secured the title without losing a single game throughout the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons, while the men climbed from third in the league to top the table by winning their last three games.
Charlotte Josiah, Mighty Eagles women’s captain, said: “It’s incredible to be unbeaten for the second season in a row.
“We have such young local talent in the team who work tirelessly at each training session to enable this unbelievable achievement.”
Men’s captain Matthew Josiah added: “I’m really proud of the team – we have come so far, having back-to-back promotions to now being Premier League champions.”
There is no rest for eitherteam, though, as the season continues with the UK Championships – the dodgeball equivalent of the FA Cup.
Both Bedford sides expect to do well, with the women’s team hopeful of winning the trophy, and the men aiming for a spot in the final.
Charlotte continued: “We’re so pleased to see both our teams do so well, and we’re grateful for the support of the many people who have helped us get here, including our club sponsor – Ampthill-based Bonfire Creative Intelligence.
“We’d love to see more people come along and join us and help dodgeball in Bedford grow even more.”
The game is open to over 16s and the Mighty Eagles meet at Hastingbury Upper School every Tuesday at 9pm. The first training session is free, and then £3 every week thereafter. See www.mightyeagles.co.uk for information.
