Several of Beds Road Club’s riders did well at the Welwyn Hilly that was shortened due to ice on part of the course.

Steve McKeown clocked a fantastic time of 57.50mins, while Jon Friend also rode well until the last corner, where he slid on ice and crashed.

The club’s 22.6-mile time-trial was formed by two laps of the 11.3-mile Summer Evening League course and featured two climbs of the challenging Hillfoot.

Jason Green sped around the first lap in 27.42mins and finished top of the leaderboard with an overall time of 55.34mins as he recorded an impressive 24.403 average mph.

Kieron Lewis clocked 57.11mins, while former club rider Sam Hayes (Team Salesengine), who was recovering from a bout of the flu, gained third in 57.39mins.

At the Bedford Parkrun the day before, Peter Gell just pipped Matt Bowmer, who set another personal best, while Mick Case also produced a storming run.

At the first Hitchin Nomads time-trial of the series, Graham Laming completed the 10-mile course in 27.05mins, followed by Friend, 27.12mins, and Jaouade Izzo, 28.01mins.

The club hosts a 25-mile time-trial on Sunday morning where some of the country’s top riders will try to clock under the hour.
