Sneath earns Beds call-up

CRICKET: Veteran Will Sneath has earned a surprise call-up for Bedfordshire’s opening MCCA one-day cup fixture with Hertfordshire at Ampthill on Sunday.

With Martin Weightman unavailable, the selectors have opted for Sneath, 35, who first played for the county 15 years ago, to fill the vacancy in the pace attack.

The batting line-up includes Middlesex opener James Kettleborough and Rob Keogh, who hardly featured last year due to county commitments.

George Thurstance and Andy Reynoldson are also included as both players impressed in a warm-up game with Cambridgeshire at Dunstable last weekend.

Thurstance hit 51, while opener Dan Harris scored 65, with George Arblaster adding 33 and Reynoldson 21 as Beds were all out for 222 in the 49th over.

Cambs reached 207-6 before the rain came with Andy McGarry, Colin Griggs, Weightman, Dan Vernon, Chris Esh and Reynoldson taking a wicket each.

Beds: Oliver Clayson, Steve Stubbings, James Kettleborough, George Thurstance, Rob Keogh, Andy Reynoldson, George Arblaster, Chris Esh, Will Sneath, Colin Griggs, Andy McGarry.
