Early promise comes to nothing as Beds lose out to Cumberland

Bedfordshire threw away a winning position as they fell to a seven wicket defeat against Cumberland in their MCCA Unicorns Championship Eastern Division clash this week.

The hosts had won the toss aand opted to bat, getting off to a fine start thanks to openers Charlie Thurston (70) and Luke Thomas (101), who put on 141 as Beds were all out for 397.

With the ball, the hosts impressed too as Cumberland collapsed from 109-1 to 161-7 thanks to Ed Wharton (4-61).

However, they then recovered to 281 all out thanks to a last wicket partnership of 57.

When Beds batted again, they slumped to 87 all out.

With a target of just over 200, Jonathan Miles was unbeaten on 79 as Cumbs eased to 204-3.
