Blunham to host Lashings

WORLD record holders Blunham Cricket Club have arranged to host the Lashings World Cricket XI on Friday, August 26.

The village club smashed the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous cricket match last August having originally held it back in 2008.

The record was subsequently beaten by teams from Australia and then New Zealand.

But over the August Bank Holiday last year, Blunham won it back after playing for a remarkable 105 hours. Forgetting the sleep deprivation and a month’s worth of rain in the first two days, the record was finally returned to Bedfordshire.

This year Blunham CC is honoured to host the Lashings XI and for those not familiar with the name, they are a team of ex-international Test cricketers who tour the country and entertain people with their fantastic skills.

Their squad contains the likes of former West Indian skipper Curtley Ambrose and his teammate Courtney Walsh, Aussie paceman Jason Gillespie and ex-England Test stars Graeme Hick, John Emburey and Phil Defreitas.

There will be a three-course meal in a luxury marquee with the Lashings players and staff at noon while play starts at 2.30pm. For further details contact Giovanni Petrucci on 07768 010460.
