Beds return to county action

CRICKET: After a highly successful training weekend, Bedfordshire continue their preparations for the new season with a practice game against Cambridgeshire at Dunstable on Sunday.

This will be an important warm-up for the Minor Counties one-day competition fixture with Hertfordshire at Ampthill the following Sunday.

There aren’t likely to be too many new faces in the Bedfordshire line-up this season for, although the county finished bottom of the Minor Counties Eastern Division last season.

It is inevitable that first-class counties will continue to show an interest in the county’s highly talented youngsters.

James Kettleborough has a contract with Middlesex and his availability for Bedfordshire this season is likely to be limited.

Andy Reynoldson and Dan Bendon, who hardly played last season, were at training which was organised by former Derbyshire player Steve Stubbings, who has been appointed vice-captain to skipper Oliver Clayson.

Bedfordshire are hoping to include most of the team likely to start in the cup side the following week at Dunstable on Sunday, although Oliver Swann will be unavailable as he is playing hockey for English Universities.

The match starts at 11am.
