The Ladies have been entered into the men’s Development Division East this season, a ground-breaking development for women’s cricket in the county.

Andy Watts, chairman of the Bedfordshire County Cricket League, said: “It was an historic day, not just for the Bedfordshire County Cricket League but also for Bedfordshire Cricket.

“The match may have been slightly one-sided in favour of Bedford CC but there were plenty of positives that the Ladies can take from their first League outing.”

Bedford had made an imposing 356-2 from their 40-overs as both openers made centuries with Rahul Sheemar (15) retiring out for 110 and Edward Else (13) caught by Anna Monk off the bowling of Amie Nicholls for 138.

The Ladies then struggled in reply, but Angela Bartlett (41) and Karen Bowyer (40) were the standout contributors as they reached 113-8 from 40 overs.
