Bedfordshire O50s’ run in the ECB County Championship Cup was ended in the quarter-finals by Hampshire Seniors O50s, who won by five wickets.

Beds had won the toss and batted, making 217-6 from 45 overs, thanks largely to opener Jeremy Page carrying his bat for an undefeated 96 from 136 balls.

David Mercer added 29, while Colin Stevens made 25 in support.

An opening partnership of 86 set Hants on their way as they made 221-5 with more than four overs remaining.

Sam Parkar was Beds’ leading bowler with 2-29 from nine overs, while Martin Kinsella (1-64), Mercer (1-48) and John Marsh (1-25) all picked up wickets.

U15s ease past Shropshire

Bedfordshire U15s enjoyed a hefty 115-run win over Shropshire in their ECB U15 County Cup Group 2B match at Blunham CC.

The hosts made 233-8 thanks to Ben Slawinski’s 57 and Kashif Ali (49), while Oliver Pitts hit 31.

Shropshire were then bowled out for 118 as there were three wickets each for Kieran Smith (3-10), Ben Bradley (3-15) and Kamran Bahra (3-42).

Beds U14s are defeated

Bedfordshire U14s were well beaten by Leicestershire U14s in their ECB U14 County Cup Group Two clash on Sunday.

The hosts made 234-3 from 45 overs, before Beds were all out for 132 despite a valiant 40 from Shaylen Tomlinson-Patel.

They also lost by 80 runs in their match with Northamptonshire Cricket Board.

Hasib Homyoon and Emilio Gay claimed two wickets as Northants were 210-8 from 45 overs.

Beds were well-placed when Tomlinson-Patel (54) and Homyoon (26) were at the crease, but once they were dismissed, Beds fell to 130-8.

Seven-wicket win for Beds U12s

Bedfordshire U12s enjoyed a seven-wicket win over Nottinghamshire U12s in a friendly at Bedford School on Thursday.

Notts were dismissed for 149 in 40 overs as Fayyaz Ahmed claimed 2-17, while Rahul Sheemar took 2-19 and there were wickets for Alex Rennie, Lucas Brown, Amaan Mehmood, Robert Bassin, Atharv Patil and Sam King.

Beds then eased to their total, making 152-3 as Ahmed top-scored with 39, while Thomas Blythman hit 34 not out and Patrick Brooke 24 not out.

They were beaten by London Schools Assiciation by 22 runs in a friendly last Wednesday evening though.

London tallied 184-9 from 40 overs as Brown picked up 2-40, with Ahmed, Rennie, Mehmood and Bassin amongst the wickets.

Beds then fell just short as Cameron Monteith hit 47, while Brooke made 26 and Ahmed 23, but they collapsed from 133-3 to 162 all out.

They also were 10-run winners over Yorkshire in another friendly last Tuesday.

Beds had made 201-7 thanks to a fine knock of 71 from Monteith while Brooke added 21.

Monteith then took 2-40 and Rennie and Brown had wickets as Yorks were 191-6.

U11s fall to South Northants

Bedfordshire Cricket Board U11A lost out by 62 runs to South Northants District U11s in their friendly at Langford CC on Thursday.

Beds’ bowlers did a fine job of restricting their opponents to 146 all out as Max Coplin claimed 2-16 and Shiva Songara took 2-20, while there were also wickets for Ibrahim Sheikh, Toby Williams, Devon Brooke, Norton Latham and Roger Mackay. Beds then struggled with the bat though, as they were all out for 84 as only Williams (14 not out), Coplin (13), Mackay (11) and Brooke (10) made double figures.
