The event was attended by England women cricketers Beth Morgan and Lydia Greenway as part of a programme of activities, which also included working with the county women’s team and visits to schools in Luton and Bedford.

Luton’s Challney High School were winners of both U13 and U15 categories and will now represent Bedfordshire at the regional finals at the end of April.

Other schools that competed were Bedford’s Westfield Middle, Harrowden Middle, Biddenham Upper, Bedford Academy and Luton’s Denbigh High.

Howard Moxon, director of learning and development at Bedfordshire Cricket, said: “The Lady Taverners Festival is the UK’s only national girls-only cricket competition.

“It provides a vital pathway for grassroots girls’ cricket, introducing participants to local clubs and development programmes.

“This was a real opportunity to raise the profile of girls’ cricket in the county and to help to inspire girls particularly to choose cricket.”
