And he says the commitment of the players was a big factor in his decision to succeed New Zealander Colin Jackson, who has joined Premiership Two club Bedford as Director of Rugby.
Coogan, a former Stockwood Park player, was Jackson sassistant at Bidwell Hill last season and the forwards coach who inspired the pack to such great success. Coogan was also Dunstablians coach before Jackson arrived and helped to build the club for the fantastic success it enjoyed last season.
Dunstablians won every game they played 38 of them and carried off four major trophies, the Beds County Cup, the national NPI Cup with a 14-10 win over Hull Ionians at Twickenham, the Midlands East One title and the East Midlands Cup.
Now Coogan is already planning ahead to next season. He told the Herald & Post: "The league title is this season's priority. We also have the Tetley Bitter Cup to look forward to and there is much excitement at the club even at this early stage. Pre-season training begins soon and the attitude of the players has helped in my decision to accept the coaching role."
Meanwhile, Dunstablians returned to England this week after giving agood account of themselves in the prestigious Madrid Sevens.
