Bedfordshire Roller Girls (BRG) are preparing for their first bout of 2014 and they are confident of playing one of their best games yet.

The Bedford based team is competing in the South East division of the Heartlands Series.

They will take on The Norfolk Brawds on Saturday, February 22 and the skaters are confident of racking up plenty of points against Norwich’s roller girls.

Su “TSu Narmee” Smith, one of the team’s directors, said: “2014 is going to be an amazing year for Bedfordshire Roller Girls.

“We have an awesome team of committed skaters who have been working incredibly hard to ensure we approach our first bout of the season with a steadfast strategic manner.

“We’re really looking forward to putting our hard work to the test in our opening bout of the season against the Norfolk Brawds.”

BRG will be off to a strong start as the hosts, playing before an enthusiastic home crowd at Houghton Regis Leisure Centre.

The game is a rematch of their first bout of the 2013 series in which the Brawds won by a narrow 143-120 margin.

But this year BRG have high hopes for the bout and the rest of the tournament after a year of intensive training sessions and with new players waiting for their turn to step into the derby spotlight, both as jammers and blockers.

The first whistle will be at 2.30pm. The event is a double header with the second game being between new entries to the Heartland Series, Big Bucks High Rollers of High Wycombe, and old timers Hell’s Belles Roller Girls from Hertfordshire.
