George unloads against Polish pinata Malek

POLISH pinata Arek Malek was completely outclassed by Bobby George as the former Olympic bronze medallist romped to a 60-51 points victory, writes Mark Wood.

The Bulgarian was in complete control at the Bedford Corn Exchange throughout their six-round encounter last night as he scored the sixth successive victory of his pro career.

The 29-year-old from Luton was never in any trouble in their light welterweight contest as Maleek, who had 12 wins and two draws to his name, was condemned to the 47th defeat of his career.

Powerful George had the weight advantage over his opponent, weighing 10st 1lb 8oz compared to Malek’s 9st 12lb 8oz.

George made a firecracker start as he dominated from the off. Malek was barely able to throw a punch in the first round as George combined body and head shots to good effect.

Several times in the first round it looked like George might finish the fight but Malek lasted to the bell, while George displayed his complete dominance, pulling several faces as he interacted with the crowd.

The second round was more of the same with George landing a series of savage blows as the Polish fighter had a point deducted midway through for holding.

Malek, 34, was being completely outclassed as the Lutonian continued to land clean shots at will against the Polish pinata.

It was completely one-way traffic as Malek showed great heart to stay on his feet, although he was barely able to throw a shot let alone land a punch.

Both fighters got a talking to at the start of the fourth about holding and George finally put Malek down with a short right who received an eight count with the Shamrock fighter looking to finish the job.

Ducking and diving, ghost-like George was proving impossible to hit as the two received a second talking to by the unimpressed referee.

Malek’s stumble at the start of the fifth went unpenalised as the bloodied Polish boxer dug deep to stay in the contest.

In fact Malek’s nose was streaming as the impressive George became coated in his blood.

Remarkably the fight went into the final sixth round as Malek was deducted a second point for constant holding.

A frustrated George couldn’t find the killer blow though and it was easiest decision of the night when George was given the victory.
