Beds players impress at European Championships

Bedfordshire Youth Pool Team players impressed for England at the European Pool Championships in Blackpool at the weekend.

Beds captain Josh Riddaway (Greenfield), vice captain James Molloy (Dunstable) and Callum Flecknell (Luton) all played in the U18 Event.

Riddaway ranked third best England player on his debut, winning 10 of 12 frames in the group stage as he helped the team to the semi-finals.

Riddaway and Molloy reached the last 32 of the singles, and Flecknell the last 16, as Riddaway and Flecknell were both beaten by the eventual runner-up.

Former youth team captain Tom Church (Wilden) got to the semi-finals of the U21 team event, where he played in the England B team that lost to the eventual champions England A.

Glen Hannibal from St Neots, who also plays for Bedford mens, was in the A team that won the U21 event.

The Bedfordshire Youth Team now travel to Yarmouth today to attempt to win the National Intercounty Event, after finishing runners-up last year.

The 14-strong squad will also contest the national U21 singles championship tomorrow.
