Bedfordshire go out at semi-final stage

Bedfordshire’s Youth Team lost a close semi-final to double champions Cleveland at the National Intercounty Pool Championships.

After going behind 7-4, Beds fought back to lead 18-14 before losing 23-19 in the race to 23 as Cleveland went on to win the final easily.

The draw saw all of the main competitors in the one half, with Beds playing both the fancied Staffordshire team in the first round and the Leicestershire team in the second round.

After dumping Staffs out 23-18, and then beating Leics in a three-way play-off, the pair went on to contest the Knockout Cup final - a competition for the 12 losers of the first two rounds.

In the U21 national finals singles event on Friday, team captain Josh Riddaway (Greenfield) lost in the semi-finals, the best achievement for a Beds player in that event.

The team was represented at Yarmouth by Josh Riddaway, James Molloy (Dunstable), Adam Toms (Brogborough), Joel Riddaway (Greenfield), Jack Moreira (Luton), Callum Flecknell (Luton), M-Jaye Waller (Luton), Fintan McCann (Bedford), Cody Beckett (Bedford), Jake Baldwin (Houghton Regis), Matt Benson (Houghton Regis), Ethan Mistry (Luton) and Bradley Andrews (Luton).

Next up is a county game at Norfolk on March 24.
