The early battles were fiercely contested, and the A’s were able to open the scoring after seven minutes when fly-half Alex Evans dotted down for the first try.

Bedford came back and scored an equalising try on 22 minutes when Fin Jones took advantage of an Ampthill mistake in defence.

However, the A’s forwards dominated, especially in the lineout, and continued to threaten the Bedford try line.

They eventually regained the lead when Soni Ma-Asi celebrated his call up for England U16s with a brave try just before half-time.

The second half continued in the same manner as the first, with both sides making mistakes as Ampthill missed a number of try scoring opportunities.

Callum Andrews scored the equalising try for Bedford with a typically strong run midway through the half, and the match was now set up for a tense finish.

The winning try came 10 minutes from the end when Ma-Asi was again strong in possession and well supported by the pack, as he forced his way over the line tio the delight of the Ampthill fans.

The match finished with a 15-10 win for Ampthill which saw them finish third in the table behind Ruislip and Fullerians.
