Ampthill Town CC can't force win against Hitchin

Batting first, the hosts amassed 269-7 declaring after 52 overs as Paul Strong hit 57 and Nick Barden made 42.

The Ampthill bowlers then made early inroads reducing Hitchin to 42-4.

Although never likely to score the required runs, Hitchin made it to 201-6 off 47 overs, skipper James Sneath taking 4-33 from 14 overs.

The IIs had a high scoring draw away at Hertford IIIs in Division Four B.

Hertford hammered 62 off the last six overs to reach 263-6 off 53 overs, before Ampthill put on 141 between openers Rob Cummings (76) and Phil Clark (89).

Some mid-innings spin slowed the rate and only late hitting from Tanveer Hussain (42 not out) got the total to 241-4.

The Saturday IIIs completed the double over Graveley bowling them out for 95 in their Beds Invitation League Division One meeting.

Johnny Marsh (3-3) and Kemp (2-17) were the chief destroyers, before Will Glenister’s undefeated 39 saw the home side to victory with just three wickets lost.

The IVs completed a good day with victory by six wickets over Pavenham and Felmersham in Division Three.

Pavenham were restricted to 156-9 as Lee Houghton took 3-19, with two wickets each for Matt Houghton and John-Joe Pekszyc.

An undefeated 41 from Richard Blunt and 40 from Lee Houghton completed victory with 10 overs remaining.

Ampthill lost to Ickleford in the Beds County League Division One, as the hosts posted 214 thanks to 58 from Jarryd Biviano and an undefeated 35 by Sam Craig.

Ickleford reached victory with three wickets and three overs remaining, as Ampthill remain top of the table.

A weakened IIs were made to toil in the sun at the Bury as Bedford smashed 340-4 in their 40 overs and Town were bowled out for 119 in reply.

The Sunday IIIs played Bedford IIs at Marston and were defeated by 111 runs.

Bedford were all out for 200 in 39 overs, Nick Furr taking 5-45 as Ampthill were then skittled for 89, Colin Ruddick top scoring with 28.
