Looking for compassionate dementia care in Bedford? Meet the team at Manton Heights Care Centre

Manton Heights Care Centre in Bedford is more than just a care home – it’s a vibrant, welcoming community where care is delivered with warmth, dignity and heart.
The home takes pride in its person-centred approach – and you can discover that for yourselves during Care Home Open Week in June.
The centre is led by General Manager Vera Moreira and her passion for enhancing the lives of older people is clear.
Says Vera: “Every day, I’m inspired by the resilience and wisdom of our residents. It’s a privilege to help make their days meaningful, joyful, and full of care.”
Manton Heights, at Woodlands, off Manton Lane, is part of the RCH Limited family, and offers specialist dementia care and respite.
The team’s ethos is simple: To support each resident as an individual, honouring their needs, preferences, and personality. It’s a home where relationships are built, stories are shared and life continues to be lived fully.

Dementia Café is all about listening and learning
To support this, the centre hosts a monthly Dementia Café on the last Thursday of every month from 2pm to 4pm. It offers families, carers and people in the community the chance to meet in a relaxed, warm, environment to discuss dementia-related topics.
Vera adds: “The café offers an opportunity to feel heard, understood, and connected. Our Dementia Café is all about listening, learning and supporting one another.
“We understand how overwhelming dementia can be for families, and we wanted to create a space where people feel empowered to speak freely, access guidance and know they’re not alone.”

Valued place in the local community
Manton Heights also values its role within the Bedford community. Earlier this year, MP Mohammad Yasin visited and met residents and staff, strengthening the ties between the home and its surrounding neighbourhood.
This is also a home where voices are heard and this March, resident Muriel and lifestyle assistant Melissa co-authored a book exploring dementia from life experience. The project raised awareness and gave insight to other families and professionals alike – a testament to the home’s supportive and empowering culture.
Manton Heights also recently celebrated World Art Day by encouraging residents to take part in creative activities that promote mental stimulation and emotional expression.
Vera explains: “Such events highlight the centre’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for its residents.”
Music plays a vital role in daily life at Manton Heights. Whether it’s calming background melodies, familiar songs from residents’ youth, or lively sing-alongs, the team thoughtfully includes a variety of music styles to lift spirits and spark connection. From classical to country, and jazz to joyful pop, the music is chosen to reflect individual tastes and cherished memories. The results are powerful – residents often tap their feet, sing along, and share stories inspired by the tunes.
Vera says: “Music has an incredible ability to reach people, especially those living with dementia. It brings joy, comfort and sometimes even moments of clarity. It’s part of how we make every day meaningful.”
