The highly anticipated reopening of McDonald’s drive through restaurants caused thousands across the UK to queue up for the chance to get their hands on a Big Mac once again.

But while fans were pleased to see the chain reopen, there was some disappointment at the lack of any breakfast items.

Now McDonald’s has announced that it will bring back its breakfast menu in 42 branches from Wednesday 24 June.

However, fans will have to make do with a reduced menu for the time being, with no porridge, bagels or breakfast wraps on offer.

What’s on the menu?

The chain has been dishing up a slimmed down menu in order to help staff cope, as there are fewer people working in the kitchens at one time.

While McDonald’s is yet to confirm exactly what will be included on its revised menu, it has said that all of the classics will be available. It is expected that customers will be able to enjoy favourites including McMuffins, hash browns and pancakes.

Paul Pomroy, chief executive officer for McDonald's UK and Ireland, said, "As with our main menu, we will have a limited menu at breakfast but we’ve kept the classics – hash browns, McMuffins and pancakes all return.

"Unfortunately, whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines, we are unable to serve porridge, bagels and our Breakfast Wrap. This is because we have fewer people in the kitchen."

Where will the breakfast menu be available?

The fast food chain is yet to confirm the exact branches that will serve the breakfast items, but if the return proves successful, it will roll out the menu nationwide in July.

During lockdown, McDonald’s has been open on reduced hours, from 11am until 10pm.

It is yet to announce the opening times of the restaurants that will serve breakfast.
