What is the 10 for 10 challenge?

The 10 for 10 Challenge sees Instagram users complete a set of 10 press-ups or push-ups.

Participants take a video of themselves completing the press ups then post it and challenge 10 other users to do the same thing.

The challenge actually first went viral at the start of lockdown, but under a different name - at the time, it was called the See 10 Do 10 Challenge, and it appears to be making the rounds again under a different name.

How do I take part?

To take part, all you have to do is wait to be nominated by someone else and then you can post your fitness efforts on Instagram and tag others to join in.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to wait, you can get the ball rolling in your circles by starting the challenge yourself and nominating others.

Why are fitness challenges so popular on Instagram?

This isn’t the first time a fitness based challenge has gone viral on Instagram - before the 10 for 10 Challenge, it was called the See 10 Do 10 Challenge.

Similar challenges include the likes of Run for Heroes, which encouraged users to run 5k, donate money to the NHS and tag others to join in.

There was also the handstand challenge, which saw various celebrities like Tom Holland and Ryan Reynolds take off their shirts whilst maintaining a handstand.

Other challenges include daily challenges like the squat challenge, plank challenge and crunch challenge, which have involved users attempting to do various fitness challenges over the course of a month on their Instagram story.

Helen Phelan, a Brooklyn based pilates instructor, told Bustle: “I think the see/do challenges are meant to help us take our mind off the news.

“It made me stand up, move my body, and have some virtual social interaction, all of which are positives for me.”

What celebrities have taken part?

Back when the 10 For 10 Challenge was called the See 10 Do 10 Challenge, a variety of celebrities took part, posting their efforts to their Instagram accounts.

Singer and actress Jennifer Hudson posted a video of herself failing the challenge, saying that she “can only do one push up”.

Hudson had been nominated by singer songwriter Tash Cobbs Leonard, who posted a video of herself just about managing to do 10 push ups.
