A parent's guide to the lockdown - Alone Together podcast

When it comes to parenting, the lockdown meant that everything changed overnight: parents became teachers, classrooms turned virtual, and homes transformed into schools.

On this week’s episode of 'Alone Together', our guests offer advice for parents who need to both entertain and educate their kids during the lockdown.

Join hosts Dan McLaughlin and Morven McIntyre as they help to answer some of your questions: How can parents make use of their limited time? How can I turn my living room into a classroom? And how can I keep my kids active at home?

Alone Together’s Matt Millard chats to Zoe Chamberlain, parenting editor at Birmingham Live and the founder of Brummie Mummies, an online parenting network providing advice and support for parents in the Birmingham area.

Zoe discusses how parents are juggling their new role of teacher, offering ideas for practical lessons such as cooking and gardening, in the workspace they have created within their homes.

Morven also speaks to Mhairi Lindsay, a primary teacher who is both teaching classes online and supporting children of key workers in ‘hub schools’ in Edinburgh. She shares some top tips on how to structure your day, setting realistic expectations, and making use of technology - such as joining in with PE sessions online.

Mhairi also discusses how to address a common problem parents are facing at the moment: getting their children to respect them as a teacher.
