Young spacecraft engineer from Ampthill wins award from Royal Aeronautical Society
An intern at an Ampthill company has won an award for his work in the global aerospace field.
Myles Johnson has received the N E Rowe Award at The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) Medals and Awards ceremony, a prestigious annual event which recognises individuals and teams for long-standing awards in global aerospace - honouring achievement, innovation and excellence from across the world.
Myles, a spacecraft systems engineering intern from Lockheed Martin, presented a paper to the RAeS entitled ‘Systems Engineering for the Mars Sample Return Mission’. The paper related to the work Myles had undertaken during his employment at Lockheed Martin.
Neil Hebron, director of engineering at Lockheed Martin Ampthill said: “The future depends on our young talent - on the innovators and engineers of tomorrow. I am passionate about providing opportunities to help shape their future. I’m extremely proud of our Early Careers Programme and indeed some of the early stars that have risen through it.
“Myles is a shining example of what can be achieved through passion, dedication and mentoring. Through his 12 months Internship with us, Myles made a significant contribution to our civil space work. His talent, passion and commitment are an absolute credit to himself.”
Myles said: “I am extremely grateful to be honoured with the NE Rowe Medal Award - for my work to be recognised in this way is truly humbling. This would not have been possible without the support of my colleagues at Lockheed Martin.
“My internship at the Ampthill site has provided me with lots of exciting opportunities; I was working on real projects, and my work was directly contributing towards solving some of industry’s toughest challenges. I gained knowledge and skills that perhaps otherwise would not have been possible.
