The organisation running health care at Yarl’s Wood says it is ‘rebuilding’ the service and ‘prioritising’ patient care.
G4S took over the delivery of healthcare from Serco at the controversial centre in September last year.
A spokesman for G4S said: “This is a service that is being rebuilt. I think there has been some pressures on it and what we have been doing very much is prioritising patient care.”
A recently published report by the Independent Monitoring Board criticised health staff for being dismissive and failing to take complex needs of detainees seriously.
The board also said the removal of the counselling service was a ‘retrograde step’.
G4S managing director for public services John Shaw said: “We are working closely with NHS England, who took over the commissioning of medical services from the Home Office at the same time as we took over delivery, to re-build the service.”
