World's greatest birdwatchers give talk in Bedford

An evening of tales from Scandinavia with world record holding birdwatchers Ruth Miller and Alan Davies is being held in Bedford. The couple, who gave up their jobs in 2008 to embark on their wildlife travel adventure, will be giving a talk at the ARA Club, Manton Lane, Bedford, on Thursday, February 25 at 7.30pm, in an event hosted by the Bedford RSPB Local Group.

Alan and Ruth became celebrities of the birding world after the publication in 2010 of their wildlife travel adventure book The biggest twitch: around the world in 4,000 birds.

They had embarked on the globe-trotting trip of a lifetime - a wildlife watching odyssey in search of as many of the world’s 10,000 odd different bird species as they could manage to see in a single year.

In the 12 months that followed, they encountered “a terrifying galaxy of obstacles, from unexpected weather and vanishing reservations to comically bad rental cars and absurd levels of logistical disaster.”

They survived, triumphing over adversity to smash the world record for the number of different birds seen in a year, and today The Biggest Twitchers lead birdwatching tours around the UK and Europe.

Alan and Ruth will give their account of their one of their recent exciting escapades on a journey to Finland and Norway: Birding in the Land of the Midnight Sun.

Admission to the talk is £1 for members £1, £2 for non-members with children admitted free.
