Improvement works have started at Kempston Pool and the Oasis Beach Pool in Bedford,
Sport and leisure management charity Fusion Lifestyle, who run both centres on behalf of Bedford Borough Council, have announced that they have started work on the construction of a new indoor cycle studio and a new group exercise studio at Kempston pool.
Work has also begun to improve Oasis Beach Pool’s reception area which will be remodelled to improve facilities for customers.
The work comes shortly after a full refit of Mowsbury Golf and Squash centre’s driving range, and new indoor cycles at Bunyan Sports Centre.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “The redevelopment work taking place at Kempston Pool and Oasis Beach Pool brings valued investment to these facilities which should attract new users and benefit existing ones.
“Along with the refitting of the Mowsbury driving range and new indoor cycles at Bunyan Sports Centre, the redevelopment of the pools will enhance the sporting and leisure options for Bedford further. There is already a great catalogue of sports and activities available locally, all of which are open to the public across all ages.”
The redevelopment projects are part of Fusion Lifestyle’s 10-year programme for Bedford, and has said it will invest significant sums in improving the town’s sports and leisure facilities. Ian Stenson, Fusion’s Divisional Manager said of the improvements: “Following customer consultation I am delighted to be announcing the new redevelopment works. The changes will help Bedford residents keep their New Year fitness resolutions.”
There are no scheduled facility closures during the works which are expected to be completed by March.
