Woman bedridden for 10 years died following fall at home

Chani Begum, aged 81, of Nelson Street, Bedford, had been looked after by her family. Her daughter-in-law was her main carer, an inquest at Ampthill heard last week.

She was admitted to Bedford Hospital following the fall on September 27, with a suspected broken hip.

But doctors felt she was too ill to be able to withstand surgery. She died on October 4.

Cause of death was community acquired pneumonia and dehydration.

Assistant Beds coroner, Ian Pears, recorded a verdict of natural causes.
