She has just retired as music teacher at Putteridge Primary School, Luton, after 43 years so this will give them a chance to enjoy occasional trips to places they have never been to.

Peter intends to devote his spare time writing about the development of Scouting in the county.

He has already begun a 92-page history of Scout Groups.

Peter wrote his first press release on February 11, 1969. In 45 years he has served under nine county commissioners, written about every Jamboree since the one in Japan in 1971, was twice chosen as UK media manager of the year and organised a team of award-winning YSPs in the lead-up to the centenary events in 2007.

In making the announcement, County Commissioner Bob Calver said: “Thank you Peter for supporting Scouting in Bedfordshire for so long in your own unique style.

“Decisions regarding the appointment of a successor will be made in due course. In the interim, please get in contact with either myself or County Chairman Nigel Taylor and we will be happy to help.”
