VIDEO: Children travel back to war days

Children at Haynes Lower School swapped their normal lessons last Wednesday to find out what school and life was like in the war.
The event We’ll Meet Again, held last Wednesday, was put on by company Off The Page, which goes into school to teach children about different historical periods.

Headteacher Rebecca Simister said: “We’ve had a really good day, all the children have really enjoyed finding out about life was like during the war. They all dressed up and made their own boxes, which included a gas mark, ID cards and food rations.
“We also had the air raid alarm go off and all the children had to duck under the tables.
“In the morning they had a lesson from the 1940s, so it was really strict and exactly like how it would have been then.
“And in the afternoon the hall was turned into a scene of village life with various different stalls, like a greengrocers, carpenters, all the types of shops you don’t really have now.”
